To feel like crying my eyes out???

Last night DS1 told me his side was hurting. I thought he might been feeling sore after rugby. He later told me that this pain was worse if he knocked or touched his testicles. I phoned his dad my exdh who said tell him to go lie down.So I rang my DH who came home from work. In the meantime I rang NHS direct who directed us to a&e. DH took him to a&e while I stayed home with other 4 children. DH got to hospital and exdh was there to meet him. They waited on diagnosis before DH came home and I went up to the hospital to be with my DS before and after surgery. I had to come home at 5 this morning to BF the baby. DH has just gone to work exdh has just texted saying DS is asking for me. I have no extended family and I want to be with my son. AIBU to feel like crying my eyes out???

Could you and exDH swap for a while - so he could look after the children to let you visit?

I hope DS is ok now. Was it something quite straight forward?

YANBU. Can't you take baby with you? Would xp look to baby for half an hour while you spend time with ds?

I hope it's not too serious and he recovers quickly.

Could your husband come home from work to mind the children and let you go to the hospital?

Surely this is an emergency if your child is in hospital, so his bosses would be ok about it.

Folkghoul it was testicular torsion. They saved his testes as it was caught early enough xx

YANBU. You are going through an incredibly stressful experience. Could you take the baby with you and ask your DH to come home and look after the other children? I would expect your DH's employer would be understand given the circumstances.

Jeezy - I could maybe take baby with me but there is still the other 3.

VIX - would love for DH to come home from work to help out but unfortunately work comes first xx

Oh you do have my sympathy! Our DS1 also had the op for testicular torsion last summer, if it is any consolation to you he recovered really really quickly and was asking for ice cream within hours of waking up!

I hope you can find someone to help you with the other children so you can be with him, I remember how worrying it was. Best wishes to you all and your DS, hope he's on the mend soon.

Are the older children at school/nursery? Any friends who would have them round to play for a few hours? Take the Baby in with you!

Cant your DH be at home and take a few days compassionate leave to let you be at the hospital and take care of your DS while he's recuperating after surgery

Take your children with you. Plenty of others do. We spend A LOT of time in hospital and frequently see large families. Many, many other people wouldn't even consider this an issue.

Plus, he should be on a children's ward? There will be things there for them to do. When you arrive, explain you had no choice.

I'm sure your son is absolutely fine. Could you call ex and get him to put you on the phone to ds?

Is there a neighbour who could mind the kids for an hour whilst you go to hospital (take baby with you)

Why does work come first? - genuine question. I would have thought DH could take compassionate leave to look after the DC's whilst your with DS1?

I know most employers will give a days emergency leave whilst you try and sort out cover for children.

Youarewinning - work has always come first. They bully him, he takes it.

I would 'off load' any of the children you can and then head back down to the hospital with the others. Even if you just go for an hour to see him, the others will be able to play in the play room or watch TV with him.

Other option but are the older children your exs children? If so could he swap with you for a few hours so you only have the younger ones with you?

Have they said when your DS1 can come home? Usually if it's 'standard' surgery (as in common procedures) that need no specific aftercare they are allowed home after eating and passing urine.

I was gonna offer to help but think Portsmouth is slightly too far from Yorkshire! Your DS would be home by the time I got there!
