Mentioned to Mum that DS (9 months) had leaked spectacularly from his nappy whilst bouncing about in his walker. Her immediate answer was 'well that's you with a sink full of laundry then...'

I was a bit Hmm about it - I'd peeled them off him and chucked them straight in the washer - Mum was disgusted - said I should have washed them by hand in the sink and then soaked them at least overnight - am I now Queen of slatterns??

You should rinse the poo of first, skiddies a stains the machine will cope with but poo will just hang around the seals and drum.

i had a friend once who must have thrown pooy kid clothes straight into the machine as when the machine broke down the repair man nearly passed out from the amount of poo mashed up around the drum. he refused to touch it and cost my friend a new machine.

I would wash it first either in the 'dirty' sink in the utility room, or flush the toilet and give it a rub under that (not dipping it in the dirty roilet water of course.
Modern washing machines use much less water and poo residue can get stuck in the pipes and in the seals.

poo I would clean the bath after washing out a pooey item in there, yes.

But no bad thing as it doesn't get cleaned as often as it should.....

oh god no. chunks of poo in the machine makes your washing STINK for days!

It happens to us a LOT! That bit of poo that slipped by you into the machine Grin and the stench fills the kitchen. yuk.

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 19/10/2012 09:28

I'd definitely rinse them out first, but no soaking overnight.

Cersei · 19/10/2012 09:31

My son soils regularly. If it's a lot of poo then I soak in napisan in the poo bucket then into the machine on a hot wash with prewash cycle with yet more napisan and extra fabric softener. If it's not too bad then it goes straight in the machine with napisan.

Teamumizumi · 19/10/2012 10:41

I would rather chuck them straight in the washing machine which is an appliance designed for getting shit out of clothes rather than put them in the kitchen sink where I wash vegetables and salad.

Typhoid and cholera anyone?

YANBU.

Mine hasn't been born yet but I plan to have a poo bucket to swill them in and then chuck them in the washing machine, I wouldn't dream of putting them in the sink, I see how far clean water splashes when I do the washing up and I'd hate to think of pooey water being all over the drainer, taps, floor, etc.

cestlavielife · 19/10/2012 12:21

of couse throw in ht emachine and add scoop of napisan

www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=255296892 add this and no problem even at lower temp wash

well i hope there as not too much poo on the clothes... it is not nice having to clean poo out of the seal on the washing machine door.

much easier to scrape poo off and run the clothes under the cold tap in the bathroom before putting them in the wash. (especially if you give your child holemeal bead as those little bits stick to all your washing)

IvorHughJackolantern · 19/10/2012 12:25

Yes poocatcherchampion, but that's no bad thing, it's usually the prompt I need Grin

Mintyy · 19/10/2012 12:29

Of course you rinse and soak things that have got poo on them before putting them in the washing machine!!! Shock Shock Shock.

Otherwise you are just washing your clothes in a sort of dilute sewage.

Yes, I'm afraid you really are a slattern. And so are a lot of other mumsnetters on this thread, by the look of it.

Ewwww.
