Ds 4 months old thinks I am. :)

How does anyone do it.... have a shower with a young baby who is awake when you can't wait for them to sleep because you have a school run to be on time for with an older child ?

Not really complaining as ds is a joy and doesn't really cry but plays under his play mat and generally gets a bit grumpy but not much I can do!

What do others do? Being nosey really.

I just ignored the whining and got on with it. If you don't do stuff because the baby cries you end up with a very restricted life. When they were at crawling stage i put them in the travel cot whilst i got ready on a morning to keep them safe with a few toys and just shut the bathroom door and ignored the moaning until I had finshed. They soon learnt moaning was pointless and mummy would return.

My kids both hated their bouncy chair sadly.

I agree rebecca - you need a shower and as long as you aren't taking ages, a little grizzle won't hurt.

Pop him in his cot with a few toys and go and go and get your shower. He will be safe and it wont harm him to be left to whinge and get grumpy once in a while.

Thanks for all the replies.

Really interesting to hear what everyone else does.

My older child is 9 years old and quite sensible so I tend to put dd under the play gym with instructions to dd to give me a shout if he really starts crying .. if dd is ready for school by then she will talk to him for a few mins (till she gets bored).

I tend to be about 15 mins or so having a shower and I put my make up on downstairs in front of ds in the living room talking to him at the same time.

The one thing I cant do is wash or dry my hair in the mornings as ds is terrified of the hairdryer so I have to do that in secretIn the evenings when he is none the wiser !!

It's funny isn't it because when you have a baby everyone talks about how to sleep when they sleep and how to make sure to have something to eat - a shower / bath is the real killer !

When newborn I would make sure I had a shower before DH left (no matter how early as DS was almost non-putdownable (reflux)), otherwise it just wasn't going to happen.

From 3month-ish it was the babychair but he hated it (the chair and me being in the shower).

Finally hit on a solution of making a nest for him on the floor out of my dressing gown and he'd happily lie there whilst I sang Confused although I couldn't dry my hair as he hated it.

When he was older and moving I put him in his cot but he became hysterical so now we've totally babyproofed the bathroom (with the exception of the bin but I just move that temporarily) and now DS (13 months) roams around the bathroom whilst I shower, occasionally coming and squishing his nose against the glass, or licking it Hmm

I still have to shower really quickly in the week (we both work FT so juggle keeping an eye on DS and getting the 3 of us ready in the morning), it's only at the weekend that I get to take my time.

When my DD was very tiny, the only thing that worked was me having a bath with her in the mornings. It was the only way we could both get clean and get out of the house, when she was done and I was washed I'd wrap her in her towel and put her in her moses basket, dry her off and quickly do my hair in the bath with the shower attachment. Later, she was in the cot if she was happy, or I left her in her bouncy chair while she watched me sing in the shower.

Now she's 21 months, she usually stays in the cot with her toys if I'm quick, or I remove everything from her reach and let her come in with me. She thinks it's a treat and loves playing hide and seek through the shower door.

Once I could sit up mum used to take me into her shower and I'd play with bath toys (sitting out of the flow of water). I obviously don't remember but she says I enjoyed it!
