Not to want to see charity collectors in my supermarket every weekend?

Yet again when I nipped to my local supermarket earlier to get just a couple of bits I was embarrassed to see some people collecting for charity. Someone else was there yesterday. I gave yesterday and didn't want to give today (a different charity). They seem to have someone right in the doorway every weekend and it is impossible to avoid them, either going in or coming out. I do give to charity but when for whatever reason I am not going to it makes me feel very mean and embarrassed.
I know that if they didn't stand there people probably wouldn't give and I do appreciate them giving up their time - but I don't like being made to feel uncomfortable. AIBU?

You were embarrassed? Why?

some of them actually ask for donations

oh my god!!! Someone needs to call the police! How very dare they?! You'd almost think they were doing it for a good cause! Oh, wait....

I don't have a problem with charity collectors I do have a problem with sales people selling insurance/make up\gas etc. They are much more in your face. You end up having to be almost rude sometimes.

YAB a bit unreasonable. If the charity is one I support I usually give something. But I don't think there is any obligation. The ones who annoy me are those clipboard kids demanding money with menaces. They should be banned by law.

YABU. You think that's bad? We had a local fee paying school packing bags in Sainsbury's to fund their hockey trip to New Zealand. I mean football kits, team bus sure but asking me to fund their trip to New Zealand? I have never even been there myself!

DD works in sainsbury she had a school collecting for a trip too not many people wanted bags packed, She hates when they have bag packers in they hold up the whole system she has to smile sweetly though

YABU, they've given up their time to help a charity, and you're moaning because it embarasses you?!

When I started reading your post I actually thought it was a piss-take. Sadly, no.
