AIBU to think that if you've met someone for the very first time and they are giving you a lift somewhere then it is probably best not to get into their car and immediately exclaim, "eurgh what on earth is this music?!", and then go on about how much you hate the music till they get fed up and switch it off?

Why is that necessary?

No, that would indicate a lack of social skills

iwasyoungonce · 13/10/2012 19:56

YANBU. That's just not polite!

Softlysoftly · 13/10/2012 19:58

Depends, YANBU apart from if it was anything by Alexandra Burke, which would make you fair game.

Joiningthegang · 13/10/2012 20:00

Yanbu!

SoleSource · 13/10/2012 20:00

Pointless bitchery. Yanbu.

EmBOOsa · 13/10/2012 20:02

Grin @ softly!

Glad it's not just me, it really threw me at the time. Had no idea how to react, normally I'd have told them that if they didn't like it then they could walk, but it's my dad's new girlfriend so it was a bit awkward. And then I started to wonder if I was the one being rude!

Birdsgottafly · 13/10/2012 20:12

What was the music? You've got to admit to it (suspects Michael Buble or Bolton) Grin

EmBOOsa · 13/10/2012 20:14

Haha, nah, something industrial Grin

blondieminx · 13/10/2012 20:14

YY we need to know what music was playing in order to decide who was being unreasonable....Wink

RuleBritannia · 13/10/2012 20:15

Might it not have been unmannerly to have kept the music on when you had a 'guest' in your car?

If you have a visitor at home, don't you turn off the television or radio? there's no diffrence as far as I'm concerned.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 13/10/2012 20:15

Yeah! What music was it???

RuleBritannia · 13/10/2012 20:16

*difference

pictish · 13/10/2012 20:16

What was the music - when you say industrial, do you mean hardcore techno, or that abysmal gothy industrial stuff?

ENormaSnob · 13/10/2012 20:17

Tell her to fucking walk in future.

Bunbaker · 13/10/2012 20:19

"Might it not have been unmannerly to have kept the music on when you had a 'guest' in your car?"

I agree. I hate getting into someone else's car only to have my eardrums blasted by loud music. I always switch my radio off if I am giving someone else a lift because we usually talk.

DameFannyGallopsAtaGhost · 13/10/2012 20:20

Rude.

Make sure you've got some Einsturtzende Neubarton in for next time.

ShatnersBassoon · 13/10/2012 20:20

Most people would turn music off when conversation was expected in a confined space. You were both a bit rude, so call it a draw.

Betterthedrivelyouknow · 13/10/2012 20:40

Was it Closer by Nine Inch Nails? I can imagine an eyebrow or two being raised to those lyrics Grin

Bunbaker · 13/10/2012 21:33

"Most people would turn music off when conversation was expected in a confined space. You were both a bit rude, so call it a draw."

That's a better answer than mine. I agree with you ShatnersBassoon

EmBOOsa · 13/10/2012 22:53

Who said anything about it being loud, I think the volume was at level 2 or 3, so audible, but definitely not loud enough to impede conversation.

pictish You leave gothy industrial stuff alone Grin DH tells me it was 16 Volts playing at the time.

YouMayLogOut · 13/10/2012 23:06

You were both unreasonable - you to keep the music on instead of paying your guest your full attention, and she by commenting.

EmBOOsa · 13/10/2012 23:09

"paying your guest your full attention"

I'm not sure full attention is such a good move while controlling a vehicle Wink

But ok, point taken.
