To play heavy metal to my baby?

It makes him sleep! White noise, lullabies, soothing 'ssshh' noises don't work - even feeding him doesn't make him sleep. But pop a bit of Machine Head or Fear Factory on and he dozes off within moments.

I've stopped telling people IRL about this as I've had a few too many catsbum mouth responses. Am I going to break the baby with heavy metal?

Bon Jovi is the musical equivalent of dental surgery without anaesthetic :o

When I said, 'it gets better', I meant as they grow older, not that Warren Zevon is better...

Oh fuck off, you know what I meant.Blush

DS likes Rammstein too, Mutter was especially popular when he was little which I found rather worrying considering the lyrics!

When DD was going through a very whingey and challenging stage as a baby (about 6 months old), nothing worked at stopping the crying. In desperation one day, I put on linkin park at full volume to drown out the noise (and listen to something suitably cathartically angry). DD was asleep before the end of the first song. Shock It carried on working, too. Miracle!

I think it's the 'white noise' element.

This is amazing. :-D With any luck, we're raising a generation with sufficiently good taste in music to counteract the evils of Justin Bieber and the suchlike!

God if I could only bear to listen to that shite kind of music I would play it to 2 week old bean right now!!! :o

Angelico · 12/10/2012 22:34

Now Golden Linkin Park I could put up with... Any other suggestions of similar ilk?

I just ordered a Ewan the Sheep for the 'white noise' thing Hmm - could have dug out my old mixtapes and saved myself 23 quid!

I particularly like dd's lyric mishaps 'here we are now, we're potatoes' - ring any bellsSmile

I should put your minds at rest re: the easy listening rebellion!

DS1 is now 22 and he is as still into metal as he always was :)

Bogeyface · 12/10/2012 22:53

Oh and DD1 is 15 and her favourite song is still Gay Bar by Electric Six!

When i was pregnant with DT's , I listened to my usual nirvana, pearl jam, sound garden etc etc, when they were born as tiny babies either Lional Richie (!?) or Led Zep would settle them. Now they are toddlers, since they could talk , whenever any kind of rock music comes on they throw their fists in the air and shout "ROCK RAAAA!!!!" tonight when they where in the bath I sung firstly "I'm gonna wash that man right outta your hair" as i washed their hair, followed by enter sandman by metallica. They joined in with metallica!

If yabu then so am I!

After getting DD1 now 36 from play group,we bought sweeties and cakes from the local shop. She loved singing and entertained the shopkeeper with her rendition of Dr.Feelgood's Milk and Alcohol. This was before most small shops actually had a booze license,so not prompted by stuff on the shelf.< apart from milk >.

maras2 · 12/10/2012 23:32

Sorry, should've said YANBU.

Bad to the Bone (George Thorogood and the Destroyers) was playing in the Operating room when Ds was born by C-section, I was awake and Dh was singing along. All my kids have loved music they apparently shouldn't love. So whatever works for you babies use it. It's not like you are blasting it loud enough to hurt ear drums. Some kids like a harder beat.
