to shamelessly love Halloween!

Its my all time favourite and I have two youngsters now so love it even more. I decorate the front of the house and living room and buy the kids a pumpkin each. Last year I carved my daughter a cat pumpkin and my son a jack skellington one. I just love it :)
I have outfits already for both kids.
I am due my third baby on the 15th and hope I am up to it this year.
Anyone else totally love Halloween?

It is celebrated massively in this part of London.

monkeysbignuts · 12/10/2012 18:42

My mum & dad used to carve turnips for me lol!
Not long now, can't wait :)

YANBU!

I love it too.

99% of our village makes a huge deal out of it and we all have great fun.

Soditall · 12/10/2012 18:47

Love Halloween.

We decorate all downstairs in the house and decorate all the front garden.
Buy costumes for all of us.Throw a Halloween Party and go trick or treating.Carve several pumpkins and give out tons of sweets and toys.

I can't wait for it this year.

Does anyone remember that episode of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' when they all turned into their halloween characters? This thread just reminded me of it.

monkeysbignuts · 12/10/2012 19:14

Has anyone seen "modern family"? the Halloween one is hilarious :)

I'm American and it's always been one of my favorite holidays. I really miss it -- my favorite part is making my costume.

TheFogsGettingThicker · 12/10/2012 19:16

We never used to get many trick-or-treaters, but this year I'm expecting them all out in force, so I'm going to be stocking up with sweets Grin

We had a Hallowe'en party last year with all the family's kids and some of the neighbours' kids and had a whale of a time. I don't want to do it every year so I'll give it a miss (a bit sadly) this year, but I'll still decorate the house.

Tailtwister · 12/10/2012 19:20

No I haven't monkey but going to have to look it out now.

I'm wondering about organising a party. We did one a few years back to raise money for the local children's hospital. I wonder if it's too late now...

monkeysbignuts · 12/10/2012 19:38

Tailtwister you have a good two weeks, if you're quick :)
I wanted to do the kids a party this year then selfishly got pregnant lol

Halloween, Valentine's Day, Father's Day all from America where they are big because someone's making heaps of money out of cards and tatt.

ratspeaker · 12/10/2012 20:05

I agree with what werwolvesdidit says

Its always been a tradition up here in Scotland to carve a turnip lantern, go out guising and dook for apples.
We did it when I was a wee girl and that wasn't yesterday.
We didn't go in for trick or treat, the weans went round the door and were expected to tell a joke, sing a song or do some other "piece" in return for a sweetie or two.

We now have a Samhain procession in Edinburgh

btw have you all noticed there are Halloween Pom Bears-
pickled onion flavour

Pleasenomorepeppa · 12/10/2012 21:40

I love it! We decorate the house, carve pumpkins, have a party for family & DDs friends, oh & it's my BirthdayGrin.

QueenMaeve · 12/10/2012 22:40

yanbu, I love Halloween. It is huge here in Northern Ireland, schools are closed and there are outdoor parties and lots of fireworks.
I have so many wonderful memories of my granny making us apple tart with money in it at Halloween, then telling us ghost stories round the fire. We put a ring of salt around the house too, lots of traditions associated with it for me. I can understand how some people who haven't celebrated it when they were young find it a bit alien now.

dimdommilpot · 12/10/2012 22:45

I love it as its DDs birthday. She will be 2 this year and today i bought all the decorations for her party :) she has no choice but to have halloween themed parties untill she is 18 at least.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 12/10/2012 22:47

Why the salt round the house Queen? To keep evil spirits out?

OliviaLMumsnet · 12/10/2012 22:50

YABU
Halloween is totally over shadowing my birthday commercialised.

QueenMaeve · 12/10/2012 23:08

yes Grin

PeppermintLatte · 13/10/2012 00:08

Love, love, love halloween!

Taking DD to pick her costume next week & to go shopping for decorations for the house.

On halloween a group of us go trick or treating, then we throw a halloween party with food, drink & a halloween CD. Once the kids are in bed it's time to watch "Halloween"

LadyInPinkingShears · 13/10/2012 14:43

The chocolate bar 'penguin' also have a Halloween theme going on at the moment with spooky penguin pictures and Halloween themed jokes Grin

I'm having to do DD's Halloween party next Sat as we go away a few days after then so will decorate the house this coming week. Am doing hotdog 'fingers' with tomato ketchup blood at the severed end and 'Ghost in the Toast' for their lunch and am going to fill a surgical glove with red food colouring and water to freeze into a centre piece for the sweets - did it last year and DD has requested it again. I always fill a bowl with jelly and cold spagetti and put disgusting bugs and creepy crawlies inside and make them each put their hand under the towel covering it - I think they actually look forward to it Grin

lollilou · 13/10/2012 21:18

I love Halloween too. My birthday is on the 28th so we always have a Halloween themed party. I went into poundland today and brought some spooky fairy cake cases, skull and bone ice cube trays and a rather fetching witches hat, going in again next week to get some more. I also have 4 bin bags of costumes and decorations to get down from the loft.
My dd wants to pin halloween clothes on the walls then print out our faces and put them on top.

monkeysbignuts · 13/10/2012 21:22

oooo will have to have a nose in poundland!
I have load of decs, keep collecting them! Got a little skeleton baby grow for when my lo is born so he can join in too :)

I bought 2 fuzzy ravens/crows from Asda (Don't know why I just liked them and they can be put up high to look menacing) Grin

bochead · 14/10/2012 01:00

Yup luv Halloween too!

I'm dead lucky to live on an estate where everyone gets into the spirit of it, so the kids can trick or treat safely.

cynister · 14/10/2012 01:09

I love love love Halloween. I am woo, so I enjoy all the spookiness that goes along. My nieces took me to SpookyWorld, outside of Boston, Ma one year. It was a thrilling sort of terrifying fun fair. Professionally done characters popping out at you from the woods..
