To think that whistling in public should be banned?

I'm the first to admit that I'm highly intolerant but I absolutely detest people who whistle in the supermarket (for example) and think of it than nothing more than noise pollution.
To me it's unnecessary and tuneless crap and I don't see why people feel the need to do it and why people should have to listen to it.
I know men probably do it out of some sort of nervous tick or something but it drives me crazy when I'm trying to do the food shopping and some bastard is whistling though every aisle.
(and breathe)

My granddad had a lovely whistle. I used to stay over and lie in bed listening to him pottering about making breakfast whistling.

I miss my grandad.

Anniegetyourgun · 11/10/2012 10:25

Breathing. All those human beings wandering about snuffing oxygen like they had some kind of right to it. On the other hand if you stop them, the buggers keel over and clutter up the aisles as some sort of passive-aggressive revenge. Damn them.

lurkedtoolong ^this^
I have to run walk out of earshot, asap. It makes me feel stabby. And if I can't escape, like one incident on a plane, I cry and feel nauseous.
Am the same with recorders and violins..

Anyone kissing people as a greeting and saying 'Mwah! Mwah! Daaarling how lovely to see you' should be banned because it sounds so pretentious.

FunnysInLaJardin · 11/10/2012 10:30

YABU. Whistling is lovely and cheery and you don't hear it enough IMO

Latara · 11/10/2012 10:32

MrsKeith - i miss my Grandad too :(

I don't remember him whistling but he used to sing very rude old Army songs that made my Nan shout at him; it was funny :)

notsofrownieface · 11/10/2012 11:11

Yanbu, I would happily support a law that would ban whistling. I get a rage on when I hear people whistling, chewing gum, eating . Although I have got mysophonia which is literally hatred of sound tis fun... Not Sad

bumhead · 11/10/2012 11:13

For those of you getting het up about tuneful whistling I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about the tuneless drivel that (whether this is sexist or not, I couldn't give a fuck, I've never heard a woman whistle anywhere and am only going from my experience) men seem to do in public.
I'm not talking Roger Whittaker-esque tunes but audial crap that pollutes the air space.
Also ban loud munching of food, people talking with mouths full, people that sneeze/cough without putting hand in front of mouth, tea slurpers.
In fact can we please just ban people.

It isn't as bad as genocide and starving to death

Ephiny · 11/10/2012 13:20

Whistling is banned in my house.

GoSakuramachi · 11/10/2012 13:25

Anyone who pops their chewing gum should be shot on sight. No warnings.

Binkyridesagain · 11/10/2012 13:32

Ban whistling! I can't whistle, why should everyone else get to do something that I can't.

marjproops · 11/10/2012 13:35

at least if someones whistling theyre not cussing. THAT should be banned in public. Do NOT want DC hearing this language. Keep whistling.

Ban eating while walking down street too!!!

AllBellyandBoobs · 11/10/2012 13:43

I also hate whistling, it actually hurts my ears for some reason. If you're happy then just smile, or hum if you must, but please don't whistle

have you ever thought of doing your grocery shop online?

i say ban miserable fuckers who demand quiet everywhere they go

mirry2 · 11/10/2012 14:21

I can't think when I last heard anyone whisle apart from that 2- finger- in -the- mouth type at concerts. I don't mind it at all. Maybe if I heard it too often i would find it irritating - I don't know.

FunnysInLaJardin · 11/10/2012 14:41

ah, tuneless drivel = songs from the milkround. A phrase coined my my good DH many a moon ago. YAStillBU though. Why pick on the poor ole milkman, what has he ever done to you?
