to think 67 yr olds have sex

My aunty has a bad prolapse and went to the hospital for help, she was seen by a doctor and saw a nurse who said they couldn't operate for various health reasons and gave advice about pain management etc.
My aunty said, "not that I feel like it with this pain but what about sex?"
The nurse replied "you are 67 yrs old, you can't be serious". The nurse was about 30.
AIBU to be totally outraged on behalf of my aunty that a professional could think like this?

Lovely - rememebr that everyone is different.

Lovelygoldboots · 09/10/2012 23:31

Thanks, I hope your aunty gets some effective treatment. It is an annoying embarrassing problem.

Eliza22 · 10/10/2012 09:14

Report this health professional. She knows little about healthy behavior in a senior lady and is NOT behaving in a professional manner. She's in the wrong job.

My parents would have roared with laughter at the ignorance.
Both in their late 70s.
I can see how someone more modest might be made very uncomfortable by the comment.

SoggySummer · 16/03/2013 17:24

Thats terrible. Rude at best and just ignorant.

Makes you wonder at what age the NHS write people off. It does seem to be "ah your old, its not worth the bother for you"!!!

IMO - although 67 does not make you spring chicken material I dont actually think it is old these days either. My parents are mid to late 60's and still as active (in general - no idea on their sex life, although my mum did sell the headboard because it rattled too muchSmile) as they were 10/15 years ago!!!

Your poor aunt. I think she should complain, if not too embarrassed to do so.

Another Zombie thread, October last year so six months ago.
What's with the reincarnating of old threads?

shesariver · 16/03/2013 17:37

I hate this, reading something and realising its that old. Why resurrect it saying "im always available for you" anyway youarepriceless, doesnt even make sense!

TheNebulousBoojum · 16/03/2013 17:41

I think it does if he just wanted to cause mischief.

LadyBeagleEyes · 16/03/2013 17:43

He's a twat and probably an Arrse Wink

Magimedi · 16/03/2013 17:47

I was just primed with my witty reply & saw LadyB's reply.

When will I learn to look at the date of the OP?

thegreylady · 16/03/2013 19:34

Respect to cop's aunty :-) I am 68 and have no interest in sex at all Grin neither has my 76 year old dh.

thegreylady · 16/03/2013 19:35

Op not cop!

kneesofnorks · 16/03/2013 20:30

My dad had a heart attack at 67 and was most put out when he was told he could resume sex once he was able to climb the stairs at home with no difficulty - they don't have any stairs!! Grin

TattyDevine · 16/03/2013 20:37

They absoultely do and I heard my parents at it when I was at theirs last August.

Which they of course have every right to do even after 40 years of marriage etc.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 16/03/2013 20:40

That's awful! Even if she doesn't want sex, surely it is pretty humiliating to feel you're being treated that way? I would expect they should assume you want to feel like sex, even if you're not having any? Because presumably it's not exactly fun even if she's not needing to be merrily at it every night.

tinkertitonk · 16/03/2013 23:22

Hope your auntie seduces nurse's boyfriend.

Esp. if nurse is a boy.

Loulybelle · 16/03/2013 23:43

YANBU, If shes enjoying herself, then bang away, why not.

ChipTheFish · 16/03/2013 23:47

My PIL are around that age and I'm pretty sure they are still having sex. They are the most in love couple I know and DP accidentally came across some of PILs Viagra

SoggySummer · 17/03/2013 01:27

Im always available for you????

WTF?????

TigerseyeMum · 17/03/2013 01:33

Make a complaint. A healthcare professional should not make judgemental comments.

The older adults training I attended last week reminded us that older adults have more sex than any other age group and also have the highest proportion of STIs as a result.

The nurse has implied that older women are 'past it' and her comments suggest your auntie is somehow wrong to even have a concern. She needs some refresher training.
