Still, she's better than Brucie.

It is her own nose, unlike MJ.

I assume the upwards inflection is because she lives in Australia.

Mumsyblouse · 07/10/2012 14:10

Yes, she was a bit irritating with the 'yah' and the upward inflection, but as bisjo has said, this is partly as she lives in Australia. I thought she was good, and her tips very helpful, I quite like her. She doesn't appear to be pretending to be someone else, which I always feel about Tess Daley (although I feel sorry for her now, as her husband is a complete arse).

BeaLola · 07/10/2012 17:13

Its not just me - I soooooo wanted the "yahs" to stop & thought she sounded patronising (but agree it could be nerves). However loved loved loved Lisa & Robin - way to go.

2 Q's tho:

Darcy's nose - real or assiated ?

& did anyone else think that Anton looked "strange" - has he had anything done ??? My DH coming in at the end thought his hair had been over dyed but I thought his face looked different ?

oh & I have to get this off my chest - Tess's outfits - come on BBC - you could do better .

elizaregina · 07/10/2012 17:25

HOPEFULLY someone picked up on the yahs - and will urge her to stop it - ....better than alisha though.
cant bear tess either - i dont know why they dont get presenters with personality on - like CRAIG DOYLE., what happened to delicious craig!!!!

Or Liza Tarbuck or Fern.....

BenandBolly · 07/10/2012 17:39

I don't agree with people saying she knows what she is talking about, ballroom is quite different from ballet. I wouldn't think a marathon runner would be able to start critiquing football.

One of the reasons ballet dancers are encouraged NOT to take up other forms of dance is because they are completely different and don't work the same way, thus hindering performance.

Scholes34 · 07/10/2012 17:44

Disagree with benandbolly. Ballet is a core dance. Master that and you can master most dance.

BenandBolly · 07/10/2012 17:47

Scholes
I agree ballet is the basis for all dance, however, it can hinder some styles like street because the body gets too used to being upright so it can be harder to master than if you had done no dance at all.

My point is though that Darcey hasn't mastered ballroom.

midori1999 · 07/10/2012 17:52

According to the media Darcey has taken ballroom lessons to prepare for strictly and she did do a Rumba or similar one the first show, which looked pretty good to my untrained eye, so she must have some clue. I can't see that she's any less 'qualified' than Alisha Dixon.

BenandBolly · 07/10/2012 18:01

I don't think she's less qualified than Alisha Dixon. I also have nothing against her as she is amazing in her field.

However, having some clue isn't the same as being an expert, someone who has dedicated years to the form, rather than a few lessons in the last couple of years. I think it's a shame that one of the professional ballroom dancers haven't been used as they would be far more insightful IMO.

BellaVita · 07/10/2012 18:03

To me, she is insincere with her comments.

cocolepew · 07/10/2012 18:07

Eliza, Craig Foyle has his own talk show on RTE.

difficultpickle · 07/10/2012 18:20

Unless DB had her nose fixed as a child it is her nose. You just need to look at photos of when she became principal at 20.

FrankelSaysRelax · 07/10/2012 18:47

Agree that Darcey will be limited in her understanding of Ballroom/Latin dances. As a ballet dancer it is pretty much just you that you have to worry about, even in partner work. Ballroom and Latin are all about 2 bodies moving as one.

Also, Ballet dancers are taught that movement starts in the placement if their feet, whereas Ballroom/Latin movement is generated from the body, the feet just follow.

Scholes34 · 10/10/2012 17:46

What does Darcy's nose have to do with her ability judge dancing?

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 10/10/2012 17:52

I think the ballroom/latin is covered by the other judges TBH, she's there to comment on other dancy stuff - interpretation, musicality, rhythm, posture etc.

Have not seen it yet, catching up on iplayer tonight

FrankelSaysRelax · 10/10/2012 18:04

Len is the only one with genuine ballroom/latin experience. Craig and Bruno come from a musical theatre background, neither of them comment on the technical aspect of the dances - alignments, correct foot positions, etc.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 10/10/2012 18:08

Oh, did not know that ... I thought Bruno was an ex-ballroom or latin dancer.

FrankelSaysRelax · 10/10/2012 18:13

Bruno did music videos - look out Elton John's "I'm still Standing" video and you'll see a very young Bruno dancing around Grin

Here's a selection of stills

carabos · 10/10/2012 19:27

We are loving Darcey but not in a good way Wink. Her nose! And why does she speak like Celia Johnston in Brief Encounter? It's a scream and almost manages to upstage the dreadful Brucie and Tess the Thunderbird puppet. Grin

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 11/10/2012 06:19

Sorry to be rude, but it's a bit pathetic to criticise her for things she cannot avoid - her physical characteristics and her voice

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 11/10/2012 06:20

I though she gave good advice.
