To prefer holidays in the UK?

Met up with a group of friends yesterday (from my NCT group so all with young children). We got to talking about holidays and I said I prefer holidays in the UK. They all looked at me like I suggested I enjoyed skinning kittens.

For me its the cost of going abroad, plus we have been on some fabulous UK holidays which have trumped the couple of foreign holidays we have taken by miles.

AIBU.

Zombie thread!

treaclesoda · 14/06/2013 08:55

I never even noticed that this was a zombie thread. How on earth does that happen?

treaclesoda · 14/06/2013 08:56

that is, I know it happens because someone posts on a thread that has been inactive for months, but just wondering if they do it by accident, and if so, how?

treaclesoda · 14/06/2013 08:57

oh, hang on, I see now. Someone revived a thread to post a link to their business presumably Hmm

PestoSwimissimos · 14/06/2013 08:59

I've reported it Treacle.

DS has a passion for travelling too he has done quite a bit for his age (5). The airport etc is hard work but seeing him enjoy and experience something different is worth it

Yab a little narrow minded.

Hols in the UK are great, no airport drama and delays. You can't guarantee the weather anywhere, I think what makes holidays enjoyable is what you do, not where you are

I have a friend who is a "Traveller", never a mere tourist. she has been all over the world and everything about her holidays is always better, more special, more worthy than any holiday I've ever been on (and I've done my fair share of travelling around too).

But she's never been to Wales or Scotland. Never visited Bath or Hadrian's Wall. Never been anywhere in the UK. I feel that she is missing out on a big chunk of her heritage and feel sad for her. But the UK simply isn't glamorous enough for her to boast about.

sherbetpips · 14/06/2013 12:30

we do both but to be honest prefer short haul abroad. costs work out around the same as we have to spend so much more in the Uk for accomodation, eating out and entertainment. The sunshine of a foreign holiday is more than worth it as does seeing different cultures and places.

I love holidays in the UK. We have some amazing countryside to explore, some lovely cities and our cultural and historical heritage is the envy of the world.
It's just spoilt a bit when it's belting it down and kids are complaining that they are cold / wet / bored (let's face it they just don't like the same stuff as us until they're a bit older do they).
For holidaying with kids I love renting a villa in the med with a pool and just chilling out for a week or two knowing that I won't have to spend time stuck indoors trying to entertain them as the climb the walls while it chucks it down outside.
