the host is 6/7 months preg and asked for me to take the pud - I've made a Cassata, which includes 4 tbsp of Grand Marnier and 3 tbsp of espresso coffee. Should I take something else too???

commercial ricotta is pasteurised, why would you need to avoid that?

Avoid alcohol means don't drink 5 pints, not avoid anything that even smells remotely alcoholic. Why do people take these ideas to extremes, what on earth do they think will happen to them from teaspoon of liqueur in their portion?

its basically a soaked sponge layered with ricotta and a pastry cream, flavoured with whatever you like, and decorated with candied fruits, nuts, chocolate etc, whatever goes. It's Sicilian and usually for special occasions.

Do you cover yours in marzipan? I think that's something no one should be made to eat, pregnant or not.

I think I would take another dessert as well - alcohol could be a big no for other people too.

Being a dinner party guest sounds high maintenance - OP should take 2 fancy home made deserts? Really? Glad I rarely get invited to such civilized effort requiring social events these days :) What happened to bringing a nice bottle of wine and some chocs?
