kissing babies

I'm not sure if IABU, I don't think so but I need advice on how to handle this if not!

I have a 6 month old DS, and he has a cousin who is a year older. Whenever we go to visit, my SIL gets her baby to kiss mine on the lips. It's quite sweet, but I'd rather she didn't, as when we get back, a couple of days later one of us inevitably gets some kind of cold. She even says, oh, my DC gets every bug going, ha ha, then gets them to kiss. I'm pretty sure she kisses him on the lips too.

AIBU? I just think that toddlers get loads of bugs, that's to be expected, but I don't want them to actually get so close, the snot, yuk!

So if IANBU, how do I say something? She is my DH's sister, so it'd be nice if he would, but I don't think he's as bothered. I am thinking about this today because we saw them a couple of days ago and I can feel a sore throat coming on. We don't see them that often so that's why I've not said anything before, but I don't want it to always happen. I don't think I'm being pfb, am I?

YANBU

I hate hate hate people trying to get toddlers or babies to kiss. The toddler squashes the baby and the baby ends up pushing the toddler away the toddler feels rejected and the bay gets all grotty. It's parents forcing child's to do things that they don't want to do, And all for one of those "you've been framed" moments. UGH!

baby gets all grotty, and that's children not child's...

I'm pretty sure grems can survive on hard surfaces for 48 hours.

Depends on the virus, but longer than you'd think :o

Of course you'd stop a baby licking a welly, but they have usually done it before you get there. And don't even think about letting them push a lift/crossing button. I read somewhere about the number of germs on those...

Every virus they get now is one less that they get at school if that helps?

I think anyone kissing babies on the lips is a bit Hmm to be honest. And agree with TittyWhistles about making children kiss each other - surely it's only cute if one child has initiated it, if they've been told to do it I find it quite uncomfortable TBH

Do some people actually put their fingers into babies' mouths to feel for teeth? I've heard it all now! Shock

YANBU. It is simple good manners not to spread germs if you can help doing so. I have tried to teach my children that from as early an age as they can understand (in appropriate language) eg "you wouldn't want the baby to catch your cold" etc. I cannot stand adults who don't cover mouths when coughing or sneezing. It is just totally ill-bred and inconsiderate. Why not do your best to keep your germs to yourself, even if it is "just a cold"?
