Insensitive timing of advert....

Just switched over to C5 and watched a young girl on "Changing Faces" receiving a consultation about reconstruction of a facial deformity and in particular around her eye are.

Within 5 seconds, the next advert was for Clinique promoting an under eye cream with the words "stressed about dark circles under our eyes" etc etc...

Just thought it was extremely poor taste.

Op I totally agree with you, I actually gasped at the insensitivity of the advert.

Fantastic programme with some totally amazing people.

Sorry things are so hard for you right now x

Yanbu - adverts are tailored to the content of the programme either side of them. (Although particularly insensitive in the context you describe above).

$3.5 million for a cool, refreshing, sexy, life-changing beer advert during the Superbowl? Why else would they pay that kind of money if not to play on your fears, hopes, anxieties, aspirations.

Now that you have noticed (because of your personal experience) you will recognise such marketing in all tv ads and programmes.

(Buy a new car...you'll then spot the same car everywhere. Buy a rare-ish breed of puppy, then you'll see lots of them when out and about).

Sorry to hear of your personal difficulties, it can be the smallest things that break through our resolve to stay strong, particularly when we feel others are depending on us.

I hear you OP.

Watching telly is as subjective as any other media activity. I'm sorry you're having a rough trot.

In an attempt to lighten the mood I present you with this <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?um=1&hl=en&safe=off&biw=1279&bih=798&tbm=isch&tbnid=rHeaQ8XhKSHb9M:&imgrefurl=www.bitterwallet.com/dubious-ad-placement-of-the-day/34445&docid=rxEEjd8jCS58kM&imgurl=www.bitterwallet.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Screen-shot-2010-09-12-at-11.48.41.png&w=604&h=685&ei=Mv9tUP3ZOsOr0QXksIC4CQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=174&vpy=129&dur=371&hovh=239&hovw=211&tx=122&ty=131&sig=112231034777517778005&page=1&tbnh=135&tbnw=119&start=0&ndsp=23&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:68" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">amazing example of advertising placement?

The fact you went on to talk about people jumping on you and the OP 'not being alone' would suggest you thought some people had, ie me.
