to think that Baby Centre is being too precious over April Jones

The Baby Center forums have banned all discussion of the April Jones kidnapping 'out of respect'. AIBU to think that they are BU?

Having read some of the smug, judgemental shit on here aimed at parents going through a a waking nightmare, I think that Baby Centre may be right.

BridgetBidet · 03/10/2012 11:12

Considering it looks like there will probably be some kind of criminal proceedings relating to the case it may well be a wise decision as it could possibly prejudice any court proceedings. If you have a look at the Mail comments etc it's normal for anything sub-judice to be closed to comment so they might just be shutting the stable door before the horse has bolted in anticipation.

WorraLiberty · 03/10/2012 11:12

Some of the Facebook groups have been wrecked by nasty comments from small minded individuals, who have nothing better to do than kick April's parents during the most distraught time of their lives.

If there's been anything like that on Baby center then I'm very gladded they've banned the subject.

It's not going to help find the poor girl is it?

*glad

It is a shame that some people are incapbable of keeping their nasty opinions to themselves (I don't mean on here, but in general) when something like this happens. However, I do think that if you can't talk about a child abduction case on a parenting website, then serious questions need to be asked about what a parenting website is for.

solidgoldbrass · 03/10/2012 11:16

Where are they going to stop, though? Many news stories centre on individuals suffering horribly, and many such stories attract idiots with insane woo theories and/or a victim-blaming agenda. And some of the stuff that idiots post online could be considered prejudicial to a fair trial (look at all the horrors surrounding the rapist CHed Evans [MNHQ Evans has been convicted of rape therefore it is not in any way illegal to refer to him as a rapist] and the abuse heaped on his victim).

I can see why a forum might decide to ban all mention of a subject if they think they haven't got the staff or the equipment to remove potentially illegal content fast enough, but it's not an idea I particularly support.

It could be that her mum is a member.

There was a member who's daughter died and it was requested it wasn't talked about as mum was a member and they didn't want her identified until after the case in which her father was found guilty of murder.

Good idea

There's enough heartache, without peoples vile tongues being added.

Berry72 · 03/10/2012 11:19

I remember this site during Madeleine McCann, it was particularly vile.

Sparklingbrook · 03/10/2012 11:21

I was wondering that Berry. Way before my time but I can only imagine. Sad
