He's not really allowed in beds.

But I'm cold and lonesome and he's snuggly.

My dog occassionally sleeps on my bed but he lies smack in the middle and I can't move.
Cats are far better bed companions IMO, they're small and purry. I have one in my bed and ds has the other.

No way would I let my dog sleep in my bed with me because she has the world's worst flatulence problem, moults like hell, and a bad coprography habit which means I don't want her front or rear end anywhere near me when I'm not awake to keep a bit of distance, thanks. Plus she's a Labrador and so takes up a significant proportion of the bed.

However, if I did let her sleep on the bed, it would not result in any dominance or aggression problems because by nature she has a very submissive temperament. You can make dogs a lot better or worse with how you keep them but you can only ever work on what's already there, much as with people.

If your dog has no behavioural problems, doesn't stink and you're happy about it, YANBU.

I'd LIKE my dog to sleep on the bed. He jumps on for a few minutes and then buggers off to lay in the draft under the door!
The only time he really snoozes there, is when DP goes to work, when like somebody else already said, he jumps into the warm patch and puts his head on DPs pillow! Grin first time he did it I got a real surprise when I woke up and found him there! Grin

YANBU - our pup sleeps in our room, he has a bed in there but the last week or so (since it's been cold) he has jumped up onto our bed and slept there all night!
He is so lovely and warm and cuddly in the morning when he's still half asleep. DH leaves the house much earlier than me so me and pup have an hour or so of cuddles in bed after he's gone to work Smile
I'm not sure he'd be allowed in our bed though if he malted - couldn't be doing with a dog hair ridden bed! Luckily he doesn't malt and he's quite small so he is welcome in my bed! Grin

Ugh! I think any pet in a bed is revolting. Sorry!

ganglygiraffe · 02/10/2012 11:44

I think it's gross, sorry! On the bed isn't too bad I guess but in the bed with their head on your pillow?! Yuk!

I mean don't you have to change your sheets every day and wake up smelling of dog??

I love dogs and have a Lab Collie Cross. I couldn't have him in my bed, he stinks and spends a good chunk of the day rolling around in who knows what. Also what about fleas?!

YABU.

Depends on breed of dog... We have a Mal and there's no way she's allowed on the bed:
She eats shit - usually horse but has been known to snack on fox and other dog to vary diet.
She rolls in shit - see above
She eats massive bones - they stink therefore her breath stinks
She's not that small though no DDB size thank god
She moults everywhere and I'd like my bed to not be one of those places
She would think the bed was 'hers'

She did sleep on our bed on a blanket when I forgot to get more and we ran out of oil over the epic cold snap we had. I'm also pretty sure she's been sneaking onto the spare bed with DH whilst he's in there (new baby!)
