...is one of the ponciest and twattiest things EVER?

I saw a pic of this in a magazine today - it looked lovely but WHY WHY WHY would you do that?

It screams pretentiousness and poncetwatickness. Or AIBU?

Oooh no, YABU. I know someone with a bookshef arranged by colour and I love it. Personal preference and all that.

KatyMac · 28/09/2012 23:14

I have my 'That's not my.....' books in rainbow order, but the rest are alpha by author & genre

MadBusLady · 28/09/2012 23:29

OH oh! I was looking for that! Thank you Norks!

QueenMaeve · 29/09/2012 00:51

My 2 year olds favourite past time is pulling books off the bookshelves donut wouldn't last long in our house.

GranToAirMissiles · 29/09/2012 00:59

You can arrange by colour within theme. It does look better.

AuntySib · 29/09/2012 01:21

Wrong,just wrong!

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 29/09/2012 19:51

AuntySib: my thoughts exactly! But Norks, I LOVED that youtube clip! Thanks so much for posting it :)

Dewey decimal.

Nivet · 29/09/2012 19:54

I arrange by theme, height & colour. I am very particular and a little bit bonkers. No-one mess with my books.

Floggingmolly · 29/09/2012 20:36

That is headache inducing, Agentzigzag. I couldn't relax in that room!

HecateHarshPants · 29/09/2012 20:40

mine are arranged by genre and within that by size.

I have too many books of a couple of genres and I have each laid on top of the others on its shelf, even though there is space on another shelf. I just can't do it Blush I have to buy another bookcase but I don't want to do it yet because there will only be about 4 books on it and I will have to explain why I don't just put them in the spaces on the other shelf and then everyone will know I'm weird. Blush

So I don't judge making a rainbow out of them. Grin

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 29/09/2012 22:12

I have a collection of beautiful hardback childrens classic books which are in colour order on a bookcase in our lounge, they are rarely read but look lovely Grin

All other books are kept on a bookcase in my bedroom grouped by author but it rarely looks tidy, it looks like what it is a bookcase of well loved books

SuePurblybilt · 29/09/2012 22:22

I've done it and it looked great. And bollocks to my books not being well loved or not finding anything - I read mine so often I know what colour they all are without having to think about it.
They're not rainbow since I moved though - I've smaller bookcases all over the house now so it doesn't work. Now they're in artful piles on the shelves and in a complicated filing system that only makes sense in my head. So the bookcase on the left of the landing has Books I Like to Read in the Bath Or When I'm Quite Tired Actually. Right hand side of the landing has Books from Childhood and Murdery Type Books.

kickassangel · 29/09/2012 22:30

But the spine of a book is often different from the front cover. And loads of spines are black. Plus those in a series often match. So fiction by author and non fiction by topic. Large shelf at the bottom. Just like in a public library

NorksAreMessy · 29/09/2012 22:42

kick loads of spines aren't black as well (see profile)

kickassangel · 29/09/2012 22:48

Must just be us, but terry pratchet, penguin classics and loads of dh's sci fi are. I need to get my own set of book shelves without any of his crap on, don't I?

SuePurblybilt · 29/09/2012 22:48

Black was my smallest section, I had to merge with grey Grin

OpheliasWeepingWillow · 29/09/2012 22:48

I have two thousand books arranged like that Smile

Mostly because I always remember the colour of book but not the author

And it looks nice

scootle · 29/09/2012 22:53

I do this - it looks good!! But only with my novels - the non-fiction isn done by theme, and all the poetry is together. I love my green/blue shelf the best

McHappyPants2012 · 29/09/2012 22:56

All my DVD are in alphabetical order, my books are a jumbled mess

TheFallenMadonna · 29/09/2012 23:02

Mine are arranged by colour. DS and I did it one rainy afternoon. DH was Hmm and claims he can't find his Haynes manuals etc, but they look fab. And I have loads of scruffy second hand paperbacks.

NorksAreMessy · 29/09/2012 23:12

Sometimes youhve to blur your eyes up to see what colour a patterned spine really is

maillotjaune · 29/09/2012 23:23

Can't get worked up about it. I do locate books because I know what the spine looks like, but I can do that for lots of my LPs too even though they're much thinner so my disorganised jumble works for me.

A beautifully colour themed arrangement would probably just show up the lack of housekeeping / decorating skill everywhere else here.

mercury7 · 30/09/2012 01:07

mine are arranged by colour..I like it like that
