to ask for help with screaming baby on train?

My 4 month old has been screaming his head off for 40 solid minutes, I've never seen him like this, what could be wrong? He won't feed but can't have been that hungry when he started, as he'd'had a feed a little while before, he's'had a nappy change, I've checked his clothing isn't hurting him. We're holding and rocking and soothing him but he is furious - I think he just hates the train. Any suggestions? I'm in tears myself here. Not really an AIBU but am desperate for answers!

Tired for sure. dS did this, mortifying. Went to sleep for 5 solid hrs after. Good luck!

Stand up with him and walk about with him held upright against your chest. Good luck!

Wind, if he should be hungry but is screaming and won't feed? Walk up and down with him lying down the length of your forearm and hand pressed in to his tummy (will need to balance him with other arm clearly).Mine loves it, he is a bit sick on the floor though sometimes... Good luck!

Probably too late, but try swaddling and rocking.

AllPastYears · 28/09/2012 21:40

Yeah, probably overtired. DD howled for half an hour on the bus once, then when we got to our stop she promptly fell asleep. Angry

Scheherezade · 28/09/2012 21:42

Mine was like this when tired

RightBuggerforGOLD · 28/09/2012 22:00

Blowing in ds face is quite effective at stopping him crying for a few seconds, long enough to then distract him with lifting him up and down or flying him around iykwim! But he might be just overstimulated and/or overtired, in which case walking and sssshhing until he falls asleep is about the only thing you can do if he won't feed.

I also find rhythmic pats on the bottom (DD's!) helps. Similar to a heartbeat.

Are you off the train yet OP?

zinaida · 28/09/2012 22:22

HE'S ASLEEP!!! In our hotel, and we have to get the train home tomorrow, so will probably be rereading this then. You are all stars to post, thankyou!

Typical :o

Scheherezade · 28/09/2012 23:36

Fab :) it sounds cruel, but I find holding DS (12mo) and pinning him across me, not letting him move makes him fall asleep much quicker.

theowlworrier · 29/09/2012 01:29

Glad he's asleep. DD does this from time to time. I think it's a tiredness thing, although, it seems to be totally random. Not much help, but I feel your pain, and if I had been on the train, I would have offered to cuddle him for 5 minutes while you had a coffee/ whisky/ whatever :) Hope the journey back goes OK!

Raspberry, we've moved onto incy wincy and head, shoulders, knees and rows buts she does still adore horsey horsey. I always thought that it was just the one verse to it but we have a cd with loads of extra bits on it about a farmer taking his horse to town on market day! I was enlightened! Grin

That should obviously be toes and not rows!
