Parking Ticket At Asda

I got a letter today saying I had been issued a parking ticket at my local Asda (I never found one on my car) and as the discount period was up, I now have to pay £70. Shock

At first I was a bit confused about how you get a ticket at Asda, but it seems it is from parking in a disabled bay with no badge. However, the only time I have ever done this was when I took my disabled friend shopping. She doesn't have a blue badge, but is a wheelchair user who gets higher rate mobility DLA (so has a car from her DLA) and cannot walk a single step unaided. She needs to be in a wheelchair to shop.

At the time, as we didn't have a blue badge I asked the security guard if we would be ok parked in the disabled bay and explained and he said there was no problem.

It seems this is a private firm, Town and City car parks, who have given the fine, but I obviously do not want to pay it and googling suggests it's not enforceable and they probably won't chase it up.

AIBU not to pay it? Has anyone else had similar?

Zombie

No, you shouldn't have.

It's not enforceable. But they won't give your money back, either.

Do not acknowledge any of the letters they send you.
Do not ring them.
Do not write to them.
Do not be intimidated by the numerous letters.
They may say you will get a CCJ and get a poor credit rating as a result.
They may say you will get all sorts of threatening things.
Just ignore.
I got a letter each month for a year, but think they have now given up.

I know this is a zombie thread but I am interested to know - lots of posters saying the letters threaten this will affect your credit score etc, has anyone actually checked their credit score, say, a year after having one of these fines and refusing to pay? Just wondering if it really does show up on a credit record!?

I got one in the hospital car park still on going and it is making me nervous. Thet are threatening court action it says it is a parking charge notice, not a panalty charge notice and not issued by the police or council. So im notpaying and hoping im right :(

ddubsgirl · 31/05/2013 22:42

Do not pay and also nothing to do with Asda :( they don't own the car parks it's another company that runs them you won't I got a ticket on the car as its all done by camera

Numptywallice · 31/05/2013 23:07

You do not have to pay this. It's technically just an invoice not a fine. Go on Martin Lewis money expert and he tells you more about it on his website.

I am shocked that parking in a disabled bay without a badge in a private car park would actually even an offence.

Please dont get me wrong - I am not suggesting its OK for anyone not disabled to park in a disabled bay.

My mum is a badge holder and disabled and on the rare occassion I take her out (she lives a fair distance - not I cba to take her out) we always display no matter where we park.

However, a couple of months ago my DD had the misfortune to have an accident affecting one foot 2 days after she had had surgery on the other foot. The accident was bad enough for her to have emergency surgery. So poor DD was suddenly wheelchair bound for a few weeks, unable to put any pressure on either foot. We were lent a wheelchair by the hospital. We went to the supermarket and I parked in a usual spot before realising there was no way I could get DD car door open and carry her (12y0) into her wheelchair in a standard space with a car parked next to us. I looked for parent and child but they were full so I did use a disabled space in order to get her in and out of the car with the chair placed beside the car. We were 30 minutes in the shop. We had no disabled badge - so was I not supposed to park there then?? Are disabled bays in private car parks like Asda etc only for Badge holders and not people temporarily disabled???

Slave, you'll be fine. I get a ticket at least once a month at the local hospital. Never paid, they've given up with me now. In fact my last two tickets they never wrote to me about at all. Keep ignoring no matter ow bad the letters get.

What they did to you was illegal under the law that outlaws clamping.
