AIBU to be fed up with the plague of door to door sales representatives?

Grr...another one. That is a total of nine, in less than 24 hours. I work from home, so they are disturbing me and also waking the puppies from their naptime Angry

Would I BU to put up a sign on our front gate, asking them not to call to our house as no one is available to deal with them at the moment?

What I really want to do is to answer the door without washing my hands, the next time that one of them calls whilst I am preparing the dogs's dinner. (We feed raw. It gets messy.) I could then stand there, blood stained apron, gore up to the elbows, and say: "Yes? Can I help you?"

I bet Hullygully doesn't have this to contend with! EnvyGrin

They're selling quite nicely at the moment Grin

Axe murderers live here. knock/ring the bell at your own risk

Avid Human Centipede fan lives here. Ringing the bell/knocking on the door will be considered confirmation of your willingness to participate in this experiment Wink

It is coming up to Halloween...I could maybe get away with answering the door disguised as a zombieGrin

Nothing more constructive to add than a doffed cap to:

"no cunts from NPower"

SingingSands · 27/09/2012 21:46

I had two men from NPower on my doorstep about 2 years ago, really giving me the hard sell. I explained that I couldn't make any decisions without consulting my DH (it was obvious DH wasn't in), the kids were hanging off my legs and these men were getting really pushy, saying I could sign up now and DH could cancel later. When I made it quite clear that I wouldn't be doing that one of them actually said "Are you intimidated by us? Is it because I'm black?" Shock

I was literally shaking when I managed to get the door closed on them. Nobbers.

BibiBlocksberg · 27/09/2012 21:53

I realised exactly why I loathe these sorts of calls last night.

We've had a spade of over enthusiastic youths people knocking doors around 8pm since last weekend in my neighbourhood (turfed the poor cat off my lap to answer the door too, he's still sulking :))

I needed to ask my neighbours advice on something last night so knocked and got no answer.

When chatting about it today she said she thought it was chuggers knocking again so ignored it.

In a nutshell, these door step eejits are depriving me of an important source of
help and information with their incessant knocking Angry

"I don't live here I'm just the nanny/cleaner/cook" - they quickly lose interest.

I use that one often

Chuggers do seem to be calling door to door now and I try to sign them up to give to our local hospice - they seem to lose interest in gaining my attention and leave.

The second tact seems to be the best I have found - arm yourself with a local charity you like and ask them to give money for the charity - see what happens Grin

Oooh, I had someone from NPower actually get into my house by saying he was from British Gas (my supplier) to read my meter. Asked whether I could sign something to say he'd completed the reading. I looked and saw it was an NPower contract! Lost the ability to speak English and ran away when I challenged him. Complained. Never heard back. Cunts.

A couple of years later I worked with someone who had started a job with NPower and left almost immediately as this was a scam they actually taught them during training, as well as targeting vulnerable and disabled people with aggressive threats. He was appalled.

Ullena · 27/09/2012 22:44

NPower sound dreadful!

I hate NPower because they came round once (this was about 7/8 years ago) and me and ex both said that we weren't interested. They faked our signatures and the first we knew was a letter from our supplier saying sorry we were leaving.

It took months to sort out, and although we got a letter saying that NPower had sacked the person that did this, having seen the Watchdog investigation, we didn't believe them.

They are utter arseholes, and if they were giving away free gas and electric I wouldn't sign up Angry
