To think 1p and 2p pieces need to be taken out of circulation

Just that, they're almost useless and the banks get hoiky judgy pants if you take in more than £5 worth.

What's with that anyway, you spend months digging the buggers out of the sofa, then months counting them out into the correct piles and then some one spoils all the fun of watching them all being weighed by moaning about it.

Sods.

It's worth separating the pre 1982 1 and 2p pieces and holding on to them. These are really made of copper and are worth more than their face value.

Post 1982 they're made of steel and are worth less. Easy to sort a massive pile using a magnet, as copper doesn't stick.

Might come in handy to have a huge pile of real copper coins one day ;-)

I like them. But I do actually pay with them, if something comes to £8.57 I'm paying with cash I'll give a £10 note and seven pence... perhaps I'm odd!

At school we used to a penny race along the corridors...couldn't do that any more Smile

I do the same Scatter. I also tend to tip all my spare coppers into charity collections at regular intervals, not so sure I'd do that so much if I only had "larger" coins. When I was cashiering it was 5p's I couldn't stand- the wee buggers are so bloody hard to pick up!

Aradia makes a good point
(gets magnet out for next trip to UK)
Some coins are already worth more in scrap than their face value
