to book a budget busting Caribbean holiday for some winter sun

We've not had a holiday for more than a year and with a 2.1yr old and a 3 month old baby I really want something that its almost guaranteed to be amazing (I know there are no promises). My DH has been working lots this year including several long-haul business trips and as a result we've acquired airmiles which mean that the option I would love (whilst still extortionate by most standards) is cheaper than it could be. We have the alternative option to go to Tenerife and take a risk on the weather but I just can't help thinking that we should treat ourselves.
The money is available in savings so its not completely wild its just that other things such as house renovations and a new car would have to wait.
What would you ladies do?

I have been lucky enough to take my DC to the Caribbean 5 times and had amazing holidays but I did wait until my youngest was 5 as didn't fancy the flight or time difference. However my friend took her children including a toddler to St James Club in Antigua three times and had amazing holidays.
I haven't been myself but you could check out weather in Cape Verde as not quite a long flight.

Please dont drug your children on the plane.

Psammead · 27/09/2012 13:03

I would go Caribbean every time, if it wasn't for the long flight Smile

Inneedofbrandy · 27/09/2012 13:05

I would drug my children to... nothing wrong with a nice long nap.

I prefer Tenerife to be fair. I have only been to the Dominican - we went for 2 weeks one December, one week was glorious, the second week it pissed with rain all day every day, never again!

I have been to Tenerife three times, loved it every time and had so much more going on than the Dominican Republic did.

Wow nap, there's an offer!

That's a very good point about air miles - we've looked at long haul this year for Xmas and absolutely nothing left for where we were thinking of going, nor for Feb half term - you really do have to book air miles flights for Xmas a year in advance.

Go for it! Life is far to short!
We took DS now 10 , to St Lucia and Jamaica using airmiles ! Indulge yourselves !
And let us know how Antigua is ?

Mono1 · 27/09/2012 20:17

It's booked! After a particularly nasty tantrum from my toddler which resulted ins potty full of poo getting flung across the bathroom (accident but nonetheless unpleasant) I decided I needed a treat. DS has been a little shitebag all day so the thought of putting him in kids club while I relax in the sun was worth every penny can't wait now. I will let you know howitzer goes .thanks
