Great idea - airline having quiet areas on planes by putting families with babies together?

Although seeing as planes are so small, the noise will still carry anyway?

I think it is a great idea.

Dons hard hat in advance!

Good idea, except for the part where people without kids might have to join them if the front is full. Nobody will be shushing their kids in an area where they are allowed to be as noisy as they like, so it'd be hellish to share the space.

It'd be hellish even if you were a parent of young kids yourself, actually.

Ok, bad idea.

I like the idea of being in with other families, as they tend to be more sympathetic. I hate big brave online comments ragings over loud babies on planes. Bar one, all of my miserable long-haul flight experiences have involved adults, often drunk but sometimes just obnoxious.

And to whomever said All the Tongans to the back of the plane or whatever (paraphrasing)- that made me laugh. :)

hellsbells99 · 27/09/2012 10:29

I think the idea is to put all the familes with under 12s at the back of the plane - so where will they put all the tipsy stag/hen parties as they are normally put at the back!!!!! I have teenage DCs so doesn't affect me now, but would rather be next to a young family than a swearing, tipsy group of young men/women.

Or we could all learn just to tolerate each other.

Psammead · 27/09/2012 10:46

Urgh, terrible idea. I do not want someone's screechy, poorly behaved malcontented little sprog waking up my angelic perfect baby. The other babies can be in a gang if they like, but mine will just sit gurgling on my knee thank-you very much.

I wouldn't mind it! Having recently endured a 4 hour night flight with my ds who was refusing to sit in his seat scared to death, I would rather be seated with like minded people who understand and sympathise rather than the snotty arseholes who kept tutting and rolling their eyes! It's not like I was lent doing my best to settle him!

I think it's unfair to expect people with well behaved experiences flying kids to be forced to sit there if they don't want to tho

A huge thank you to the lovely couple who gave us a bottle containing English milk to try help, it didn't work but we was so overwhelmed by the gesture! Xx

More seriously though, I have never had a problem with crying babies on planes - apart from my own but that's just because it stresses you out hearing your own baby's cries. It's the 4+ group I have a problem with because they kick seats.

Also, the inconsiderste arseholes who put their seats back the sexond they are allowed to, crushing your legs.

In conclusion, it should go:

Kicky child kicky child kicky child
Reclinging gut reclining git reclining git
Kicky child kicky child kicky child
Reclinging gut reclining git reclining git
Kicky child kicky child kicky child
Reclinging gut reclining git reclining git
Drunken fool drunken fool drunken fool
Drunken fool drunken fool drunken fool
Stinky people stinky people stinky people
Stinky people stinky people stinky people
Tutters tutters tutters
Everyone else everyone else everyone else
Etc.

When we flew to Vegas it was the childless adults who were the issue, not any children. They were using the emergency exit areas, in front of the seats, as party areas - stood catting and drinking and generally being very loud. My sister and her partner were not impressed with having paid for the extra legroom, and it isn't cheap to do so, and then ending up with a party in front of their faces. The air stewards constantly had to keep going to ask them to sit down - and I am sure the only reason the seat belt signs came on so often was to try and contain them - certainly didn't feel any turbulance anyway. And the fight apparently ran out of alcoholic drinks - hmm, not convinced and think it was more to stop the rowdy passengers having even more.

Psammead ooh I like the kicky child/reclining git combo. :)

PoppadomPreach

Could Daily Mail readers/believers be put in the hold? They seem to be cold blooded so they wouldn't feel much discomfort.

The hold is already full of Guardian readers. Sadly the Guardian readers couldn't fit their massive swollen heads through the standard doors, so they had to travel cargo.

BoomerGold · 28/09/2012 06:33

That's interesting. I never put the seat back unless the seat behind is empty. I don't see how you could be comfortable with a reclined seat in front of you. What about when you want to use the drop down table? Does it stay up properly? I just don't want to be an annoying passenger.
