bless her heart, she's lovely, she's also kinda old (75ish). she's a fabulous nannie, i really couldn't ask for more for my kids.
but when she hijacks my kids birthdays by coming to stay I don't get a look in. She bakes the cake, gives better presents, and i'll have to work so probably won't be involved in any of his birthday at all.

help me get my head together so i don't in anyway sulk or pout or feel sidelined. (which i am). flame me. i deserve it.

i'll bet she did

QuintessentialShadows · 24/09/2012 15:27

How do you get to join the "Roundup club" anyway?

thatlldopigthatlldo · 24/09/2012 18:54

well QS old buddy old pal, I hear, the way to get into the roundup is to firstly shmooz with Aitch, perhaps spend the night in her fridge. After that it's your responsiblity to get on the radar by starting threads that produce a lighthearted debate...whimsical and silly also works well. Don't go near offensive or difficult topics. A light peppering of swearing is ok. Go to far with the swearing and the posts become ridiculous as Aitch attempts to misrepresent you by replacing fucking with flipping, arsehole with naughty person etc.

I am no good at such smooching. Sad

thatlldopigthatlldo · 24/09/2012 23:19

OK, your MIL sounds lovely and I wish she were mine, so YABabitU and all that althought totes understandable, but what I really want to know, now I've read the Alpen thread, is does your DH buy you your Alpen now?

QuintessentialShadows · 24/09/2012 23:21

oh, those were years ago. Before I turned into an old bitter grumpy frump. Grin

thatlldopigthatlldo · 24/09/2012 23:35

yes, of course he does. we're reasonable sorts with no place in AIBU. Grin

this thread, for example, will not be going in the roundup as i appear on it. and you only spent the night in my fridge because you were meeeeeeeeeeeeeeelting as i recall.

regarding how to get into the roondup... be funny, quint, and provoke others to be funny. THAT is the sort of thing that makes my Thursday night easy and i (and my dh and my oft-ignored children) will happily kiss your toesies for it.

QuintessentialShadows · 24/09/2012 23:57

Dont worry Aitch, I have no intention of making any roundup. Wink You can keep your cosy clique with your crooonies. Grin

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 24/09/2012 23:59

there is no clique, there is only funny. believe me.

thatlldopigthatlldo · 25/09/2012 17:09

there's no clique, just me jumping up and down trying to get in the round up.

it's sad really.

but why does she have to be so good at making cakes that there really is no point in me trying.

Well don't try then. Just congratulate yourself on the good fortune to have a MIL that can bake excellent cakes.

InfinityWelcomesCarefulDrivers · 25/09/2012 17:58

Cake, pig, cake?

thatlldopigthatlldo · 25/09/2012 18:37

it's ok, i'm over it now, just a moment of sulking.
instead i have decided to write her a note thanking her for being such a great nannie to the children. something i would struggle to say face to face without falling into a sobbing pile of tears and snot.
and yes, there will be cake. so i think all will be fine Smile.
