I am about 4-5 weeks pregnant and iv just got a shock off the oven. Just a small shock off the gas ignition that lasted a second or two and i only felt it in my finger, no burn or anything.

Does anyone know if this is dangerous to my baby?

Called NHS direct and they offered almost no advice and said if i started having heart palpataions or any other symptoms i should go to A&E.

anyone had a shock in early pregnancy?

sorry i got no answers in pregnancy and just needed some help

I don't think this will have harmed your baby by a shock like that. Please try not to worry. NHS Direct can be useless sometimes (and I'm usually a bit of a fan).
If you are ok, your baby will be too.

On a separate note, mydog you are a star and my hero! I can only imagine what mischief you would get up to on a night out! Grin

MamaMumrOrangeTheGolden · 22/09/2012 19:06

Cut ally, maybe you should get your oven looked at too ditsy

MamaMumrOrangeTheGolden · 22/09/2012 19:09

Actually I meant ...

I got two shocks from an electric fence that flipping hurt when I was about 18 weeks and called the midwife. They said not to worry. All that cushioning that is you will protect them. I also scared myself shitless on Google.Smile

WelshMaenad · 22/09/2012 19:23

I got a shock from an electric fence at about 18 weeks. I was fine, baby was fine, if you are feeling physically well you too will be fine. Congratulations on your pregnancy! I think it's natural to feet when it's all very new.

Leena49 · 22/09/2012 19:24

Cos it's called static its not an electric shock! I'm sorry but its just a bit daft! It's the same as when people press an elevator button.

Floggingmolly · 22/09/2012 19:28

Do you all go looking for electric fences when you get to 18 weeks? That's three of you so far Grin

ditsydoll · 22/09/2012 19:40

Even so leena what kind of person do you have to be to be so insensitive to a woman worried about her baby, you really needed have posted if you thought it was so silly.

Thanks to everyone who has posted helpful info I really do feel a lot better.

Leena, I'm quite sure the OP does not have to apologise for NOT being a science expert.

Early pregnancy is a scary time........be kind.

WofflingOn · 22/09/2012 19:44

Me, I got a shock when I was trying to charge my flat car battery. Hurt like a bugger, 12 volts and the baby was fine. My fingers hurt for a week.
You will cause more distress to the baby if you get all worked up and full of stressy hormones, have a bath and a bar of chocolate and try and be calm. Get OH to give you a hug.

ditsydoll · 22/09/2012 19:48

Yeah I'm trying not to stress.. x

WelshMaenad · 22/09/2012 19:51

I only just noticed that, I thought I was the only one that dim! I do it all the time, pregnant or not. I'm just a bit of an idiot.

Tweasels · 22/09/2012 19:52

So Ditsy. While you're scaring yourself on the Internet, here is the list of things to avoid in early pregnancy....

Gin (obv)
Cheese strings (I once sicked up an egg shaped ball of processed nasty cheese shit - I mean seriously, who craves fucking cheese strings?)
Electric fences - clearly the scourge of pregnant women across the land.
Old fashioned lamps
The bastard cooker
Car batteries

Hee hee. The joys of pregnancy

Mydogsleepsonthebed · 22/09/2012 19:53

But Electric fences are only dangerous between 18 and 20 weeks Grin
