To think that there should be a female equivalent to "guys" or "chaps"

Leading on from another thread about terms used to describe women, I realised that there isn't a word that we use to describe a group of women that is gender-specific but not age-specific.

We use the terms "guys" or "chaps" for men and boys of any age. So someone can be one of the guys if he's 5, 15 or 50.

But for women, we have "girls" which should only be applied to the young and "women" which is only applied to the not-that-young-anymore.

So we need a whole new word, a MN-originated word, that we use to describe a group of females of any age.

Because we know that if we use it enough on MN, it eventually transcends into real life, and then into popular usage, and then the OED, and then immortality beckons for us all (or something!).

Anyone got any good ideas?

AND (unites the two camps of which she is a part of both) I reckon CJ Cregg would agree as well.

junowiththegladrags · 21/09/2012 15:16

iknow, very nearly asked which sex act until the brain kicked in. Well now... that's a new one on me.

I will of course concede to all you dames as I'm even more out of touch than I realised.

Still prefer CJ though.

DameBossOfMe · 21/09/2012 15:19

Do you ever forget that someone has died? I just read absy's post about Katherine hepburn and thought, "she died?".

junowiththegladrags · 21/09/2012 15:19

See now, I reckon Katherine Hepburn would of slaughteredanyone who called her a dame.

Pagwatch · 21/09/2012 15:19

I am going to use CJ too.
They will both work better in different situations.

And we may have to backtrack from Dames in panto season.

DameBossOfMe · 21/09/2012 15:21

Ah yes, panto season.

Thankfully one part of British culture we don't get here in Bangkok.

DameAbsy · 21/09/2012 15:22

I did have to check on Wikipedia whether or not she was alive.

Okay, how about a kind of job-sharing arrangement. October - March (Pantomine season and just beyond) we use CJ. April - September we use Dame.

Pagwatch · 21/09/2012 15:24

Yy let's make it seasonal.

I just fret about a whole 'c'mon Pag. Get dressed up for a night out with the Dames' misunderstanding.

Hullygully · 21/09/2012 15:24

Can you imagine the threads?

AIBU to be furious at being called a CJ in DECEMBER?

SuePurblybilt · 21/09/2012 15:25

I forget about The Dead all the time

MrJasc · 21/09/2012 15:26

I just looked up "Woman" in Roget's Thesaurus after seeing this thread. The results includes "Cook", "Housekeeper" and "Slave" ShockAngry. Seriously, WTF!

SuePurblybilt · 21/09/2012 15:26

I think you're all wilfully misunderstanding the word 'reclaim'.
And we've had enough of that hereabouts today, haven't we? Hmm?

It won't matter about the panto dames cos we will have reclaimed it. Innit.

DameAbsy · 21/09/2012 15:29

I don't know Pag, it could end up being a fabulous misunderstanding, and a great night out. Surely that's what you're doing next Saturday isn't it?

Hullygully · 21/09/2012 15:34

I keep the dead with me and speak to them with my ouija

Pagwatch · 21/09/2012 15:39
Grin

Yes yes DameAbsy. A quick look in my wardrobe suggests a number of potential similarities.

DameBossOfMe · 21/09/2012 15:42

Joan Collins died? When?

iknowwho · 21/09/2012 15:48

You do realise that some uncouth people refer to CJ as Cunt Juice don't you?

Yuk!!!!!!!

CJ is also a slang term for female oral sex.

DameAbsy · 21/09/2012 15:50

Joan Collins isn't dead!

Apparently, that hair is all wigs. True. Story.

I remember when Nina Simone died, as I was all "what? she ws alive?"

Hullygully · 21/09/2012 15:53

Joanie is embalmed alive

Pagwatch · 21/09/2012 15:53

I didn't know that.
But then the only uncouth people I know are on here.

DameFanny · 21/09/2012 15:58

Well that's also my Christmas Panto name sorted... Hmm

iknowwho · 21/09/2012 15:58

Pagwatch up until a few months ago I worked in a youth club with older teenagers (14- 17)

You would be shocked at what I heard and the things that they came out with as general chat.

DameBossOfMe · 21/09/2012 16:03

Ok, so Joanie is alive. That's ok then.

Nina Simons has been dead for about 100 years hasn't she?

Pagwatch · 21/09/2012 16:04

I have older teenagers here all the time. I hear profanity, arguments, jokes etc etc
Still never heard it.

I guess I am lucky.

junowiththegladrags · 21/09/2012 16:07

Soooo glad I wasn't the only one who'd never heard of a cunt job.

See! Now we can reclaim CJ and everyone is happy.
