Teacher here. Don't teach ORT anymore, thank goodness!, but when I did the training we were told Biff is nn for Barbara, Chip nn for David and Kipper for Christopher. We weren't told exactly how they came about but apparently the reason behind it was to make the children non class-specific ie they didnt want to alienate working class kids by giving the kids posh names so thought nns would be better. Make of that what you will.....

I am old, and I have no knowledge of current books/TV shows/movies/toys/etc for young'uns.

I only clicked on this link 'cos it was a puzzling title.

I was even more puzzled by the expression poot kids. Hopefully that was just a typo, rather than even more evidence that I'm an out-of-touch old gimmer who knows nothing about modern life. Confused Grin

Took me ages to twig that Biff was the girl. Was thinking Biffa Bacon from the Beano/Dandy I suppose...

cheekybarsteward · 20/09/2012 20:22

Biff is definately a girl.
And if you are at that stage soon comes Sam Fox, I kid you not.

I used to love Topsy and Tim. Although I always pitied Topsy for her stupid name... even though I once told mum I was going to call my dd Topsy (when I was 8 and playing those sort of games).
