I eat about 4 kiwis a week on average with no effect. I think it must be when I eat one with a high level of acid in it.

It happens maybe twice a year. Pineapple can also do it to me due to the bromic acid.

Usually I rinse my mouth and it goes away.

Yours sounds awful Hectate Sad

HecateHarshPants · 20/09/2012 21:25

Yeah, I used to have to do this weird donald duck impression to try to 'scratch' my throat.

I still ate them for ages Hmm before finally realising that tingling lips and throat are Not Good!

Glad it's not a consistent reaction. Eat a kiwi for me now and again, will you? Grin

aldiwhore · 20/09/2012 21:26

I don't understand the skin eating bit. IABU I know because its good for you an edible, I just can't get past the hairs... I may have to shave a kiwi just to try.

happy2bhomely · 20/09/2012 21:29

My gums swell and my lips go tingly when I eat kiwi. I still eat them occasionally.

SkinnyMarinkADink · 20/09/2012 21:32

aldiwhore

I can see it now.

5madthings · 20/09/2012 21:33

Chop them in half and use a teaspoon.

I get the itchy lips and mouth etc when.i eat peanuts. i still eat them tho! Apparently sometimes your body gets confused and triggers a hayfever type reaction but you dont necessarilu havebs full blown allergy.

Intetestingly i am.also allergic to the antibiotics hectate listed as well...

5madthings · 20/09/2012 21:34

And i use my tongue to try and itch the back.of the roof of my mouth/throat. Its most ineffective.

Inneedofbrandy · 20/09/2012 21:43

My son loves the skin

I eat them like a boiled egg and I love them in salads mmm

Nagoo · 20/09/2012 22:07

If you fashioned a tounge sleeve out of kiwi skin I bet it would scratch the top of your mouth really well.

cumfy · 20/09/2012 22:18
  1. No teaspoons.
  2. Cut in half lengthways.
  3. Squeeze flesh up with finger + thumb (both hands).
  4. Bite through now proud flesh.
  5. Now the fibrous flesh has been chomped more flesh can be squeezed up and eaten.
  6. About halfway through invert skin, and finish off.

No waste. No teaspoons.

OrangeFireandGoldashes · 20/09/2012 22:24

Halve and scoop.

I get itchy lips / mouth after eating various fruit but not to the extent it stops me eating them and it seems to be lessening as I get older. Avocado, melon, kiwi, pineapple are the main culprits.

Nature is wise isn't it. That's what the hollowed out furry shell is for! Popping on as a "Tongue sleeve"!

I had some for breakfast in the hotel I was in this morning actually. It was beautifully peeled and chopped. I think I ate about a tree full. And then a coop full of eggs with a river full of salmon Blush

Even when work pays for the hotels, I always feel the need to try and eat the equivalent cost of the room at breakfast.

SomedayIllFlyAway · 20/09/2012 22:51

I eat them like an apple too - I rub most of the fur off (in the same manner you would polish an apple) and eat the skin.

I lift one from the fruit bowl, caress it gently.....and then fire it in the fucking bin where it belongs.

Evil, disgusting, slimy, frog-spawny mingballs.

echt · 21/09/2012 07:49

I eat the whole thing, but then I only eat the golden, hairless ones.

Kiwi fruit makes an excellent marinade for squid/calamari, rendering the most rubbery mollusc tender.

On the other hand, used to marinade lamb, its ferocious juices turn the meat to slush if you leave it too long.

Penelope1980 · 21/09/2012 08:02

I eat the skin too Grin Was brought up eating them like that and didn't realise it was frowned upon until I got to school
