to be annoyed at the delivery driver

DH had a delivery due, from a company that gives a 1 hour window. Great idea, you know when to be in. Except, I was in for that whole time and DH got a "you were out" text.

The text referenced a card number, we got no card through. I suspect the driver was running late, so skipped our part of the route.

This was an item bought with a "next day delivery" option because we wanted it today and it's inconvenient to have it tomorrow (if indeed they do try again tomorrow).

AIBU to be annoyed that I left a group early to get home in time, stayed near the door so I wouldn't miss the knock, and they didn't actually turn up yet said we we're out?

YABU

YANBU. You need to make a complaint to the company you bought the product from, they need to know the courier is unreliable.

ZonkedOut · 20/09/2012 14:09

The company was Amazon, DH thinks complaining to them will have no effect as it's a drop in the ocean.

well yes, but the more complaints the more chance things get fixed.
have you not contacted them yet, I would have been phoning straight away.

Don't tell me the delivery people were yodel there is a lot on here about there terrible delivery

ChaosTrulyReigns · 20/09/2012 14:28

Why is she U, thursday?

Aspiemum2 · 20/09/2012 14:30

This happened several times with us, each time saying I was out when I wasn't. No card left either although they said they had. Ending up the bargain sale item I'd bought was returned to company and there was apparently no way to resend it, I was fuming. They had my money for over a month too.

Yodel was the courier company Angry

Quenelle · 20/09/2012 14:31

YANBU If I pay for next day delivery and it doesn't arrive next day I ask for a refund on the delivery charge.

ZonkedOut · 20/09/2012 14:32

It wasn't Yodel. Actually, if we're out for a Yodel delivery from Amazon, they just throw it over the gate (literally).

And Scrablet, you're right, but DH ordered it, so I don't have the details to complain with and he probably won't. He said he will give an earful to the driver tomorrow though, when the "redelivery" attempt is made. Which probably means he'll politely point out that I was in after all and leave it at that.

I ordered something from Next for next day delivery before 1pm (I paid the extra premium).

Nothing arrived, I phoned after 1pm to track it.

My order wasn't even picked up by the courier. The lady on the phone said they'd do it for the next day and refund my delivery.
I got a email 3 hours later, saying my order would be 4-5 days Shock.
It arrived the following day.

But what a flipping faff.
In future I'll do deliver to store .

Amazon Prime sent our parcel to a courier who apparently doesn't deliver in this area. They kept not turning up so amazon sent a replacement, with a timed delivery but in the meantime one of the items had gone out of stock. The original eventually got back to amazon who sent me an email asking me to check my details as the item had been returned "undeliverable".

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/09/2012 14:38

And if there's no card through your door, and no-one else picked it up, how can they prove they were at your door? Unless they took a photo (some places do).

sorry, i didn't realise a serious answer was required. it's a bit of a non-question isn't it? whether or not its worth complaining is a different matter (the answer is yes, always!) but who doesn't hate rubbish delivery companies who lie? i'm waiting in all day today myself!

KenLeeeeeee · 20/09/2012 16:29

Was it City Link? They did exactly the same to me last week. I paid for next day delivery, they sent me the whole "your guaranteed delivery date is xxxx" then just didn't turn up. I complained to Amazon and got an apology email. On my own, I won't have achieved anything by that but if they have 100 people emailing with similar complaints about the same courier, I imagine they'd swiftly stop using them and go with someone more reliable.

I live in a flat over shops. Many many friends have managed to successfully find my flat for the 7 years I've lived here, there is a well staffed mini supermarket (open 7am-10pm) downstairs to ask in, i appear clearly on google maps and streetview as well as even the most ancient and creaky satnavs.

Jim the postie manages it every day. As does the Saturday lad and the lady who covers holidays and plays with my cat.

So why can professional drivers not cope with finding X flat, X Major Road, Town, Postcode? I've had 2 whinge at me in the last 2 weeks about how the struggled to find it. Not my problem, matey, the information's there!

YANBU - Get in contact with Amazon they are usually really good with things like that.

I had a similar thing with a £1000 laptop and Citylink and next day delivery. I stayed in all day waiting and left for work at 6 PM. When I got home I checked the online tracking thing and it said it had been signed for by someone who I did not know. To cut a long story short City Link had delivered it to the completely incorrect address - number 7 when we lived at number 42 - which was a student house and was accepted as someone who lived there had the same initial and surname as me. Luckily the lady brought it round the next day.

Kalisi · 20/09/2012 16:53

You should complain, Amazon are actually pretty good at dealing with complaints in my experience.
