To get earplugs?

My DD has had a bad cold for a few weeks now and as we share a room I have been woken up every two hours for the last week with snuffling, snoring and coughing (all in her sleep she's not actually waking up). I work full time and am a lone parent so no chance of anyone letting me have a lie in to catch up. Have been making mistakes at work and am a walking zombie so was considering getting some earplugs to try to get a decent sleep. Apparently they don't completely block the noise, which is good as I'd obviously want to hear her if she cries or has a really bad coughing fit, but I've never worn them so don't know if this is right or if I won't be able to hear her at all?

Wear them round the house at first to gauge what you can hear and what you can't.

The ones I've used in the past don't block out all noise, just dampen the sound. I could still hear the husband's snoring, but it wasn't loud enough to wake me 8745637 times a night.

I wear these ear plugs when I sleep because the boy upstairs likes to play Grand Theft Auto late into the evening.

Depending on how much I stuff in my lugs I can drown out background noise like upstair's telly and DH snoring, but I can still carry on a conversation with DH and I hear DS coming into our room in the morning. A tiny bit of vaseline helps me pop them in there to the right depth.

Get them, they are seriously life-changing if you are a light sleeper or get woken easily by noises. Have a look at the snorestore.co.uk, they do a sample pack of all different types so you can try out which ones suit you. I did that at first, then found my perfect pair (can't hear DP snoring away next to me but I CAN hear DS crying from the next room) and now I get them on EBay because it's cheaper.

I actually got told off in hospital after having DS for wearing mine, which really irritated me as they blocked out the noise from the rest of the ward but I could still hear every little snuffle of him next to me.

Thanks for your comments. I'm going to have a look online now and see if I can get some super fast delivery before I start halluncinating from lack of sleep Grin. Good suggestion, I'll try them out first aldi.

Earplugs are wonderful.
I would have snarled at anyone trying to stop me wearing them post-partum.
Single mother as well, I feel your pain.
I wear mine when DD is eating crisps
