when we got engaged and married we were really skint and got the cheapest rings and had the cheapest wedding we could, just so we were married, charity shop dress, reception was a gift from grandad, dress from mum etc we said we would renew our vows in the future and have the big wedding that he thinks all women want

we arent as skint now and dh wants to get me new rings but i'd rather keep the ones i have, they mean something to me but he wants to get me 'better' ones, he says it makes him feel bad that they are so cheap

How about he buys you a lovely eternity ring or something?

NervousAt20 · 18/09/2012 22:01

YANBU if your happy and don't want new rings then I wouldn't get them Smile

valiumredhead · 18/09/2012 22:03

Just ask him for another piece of jewellery instead.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 18/09/2012 22:22

Yep, a very sparkly eternity ring that will go with the others is the way forward.

I think that is so refreshing to hear. People are so wrapped up in having the latest stuff nowadays it bores me to tears. However, it's really sweet also that your husband wants to do that. Why don't you express your feelings to him but then let him ultimately decide and accept what he does. For some men it's a pride thing and you've got to appreciate that too. I think this is a lovely dilemma to be in. Enjoy it! Smile

When we got married, I had my Grandmother's wedding ring and my MIL's engagement ring. So DH never had to pay out for a ring, and I never had the fun of choosing one. So we made a deal - one day he would buy me a ring of my own, but the value of it would go up by £100 for every year that I had to wait for it. After 13 years, I finally got a stunningly beautiful diamond solitaire that I wear on my right hand - it was worth waiting for! Smile It hasn't replaced my wedding and engagement rings, but it is very special to me nonetheless. Let your DH treat you if he wants to - just make sure he knows that the new jewellery will not be a replacement for the originals.

Totally agree with getting an eternity ring. That's what we did, and I LOVE it. (Blush oops shouting)

getting new rings would not mean disposing of the ones you have though.. so YABU, jewellery is a lovely present and something that can be passed down through the family too..

TeaDr1nker · 18/09/2012 22:58

Just a thought, could u incorporate old rings into new ones by going to a jewellers and have something made?

Get a coppy of 'Hobson's choice' on DVD or download it.

Sit husband down and make him watch it.

I'm assuming your wedding ring isn't brass?

If he wants new rings then maybe get an eternity ring.
