To not pay the consultation charge

In an effort to get fit I have decided to kick start my regime with a personal trainer.

The chap I've found has an hourly fee and his first step is an assessment where we spend an hour talking about what I want to achieve and how he can help.

He wants to charge me his standard rate for that hour - AIBU to not want to pay?

Don't think you're unreasonable ... It's not been tight or nothing but I just wouldn't pay like I wouldn't pay for a builder to come to my house and give me a quote or anything like that.

SaraBellum - but that's not what you said in your OP, is it. You said it was an assessment, which is rather different.

As i said, if that is what the market is prepared to pay then that's what becomes the norm. Works across all industries for most pricing.

thumbwitch I don't know what it is you think I didn't say in my OP? Confused

I titled the thread "AIBU not to want to pay consultation fee" and used the word assessment because it was the term he used in his text, I specified the assessment was an opportunity for me to say what I needed and him to indicate how he could help. I think you might be projecting because of your own experiences with "tightwad" clients!

Ooops but I realise I didn't transcribe the "assess" text properly he actually send asses your needs not discuss them.

Oh well it matters not. I'm signed up for a small fortune on the promise I'll be 5 kg lighter in 8 weeks. He is going to kill me Grin
