ok so I must have my head in the sand. I think I came across a cartoon that unfortunantly sums what I have been doing these last 8 years ( add children to the mix ) :

I have flicked onto the news and have been overwhelmed by what the hell is happening to people around the world- tonight it is Syria- what the heck - the house is bombed, they drag out two girls with a 3yr old boy still in the rubble - no emergency services and the end is not in sight.

What the FUCKING FUCK . I just don't know what to do. Somehow swearing and mumsnet and asking AIBU is adding to irony of it all?

Amnesty always need letter writers. Give blood. Give ethical presents (I like Kiva). Start small. Get informed. Don't keep your tongue in your head when you hear people talking about other human beings like they are not human beings. Speak up. Smile at people who smile at you. You can pick a cause (mine is homelessness) and do what you can.

I speak as someone who has worked for social services and charities all my life. People come up to me and tell me they couldn't do what I do. Then don't. Do something small. Every little helps.
