AIBU to re-insate the afternoon nap?

Ok, so short and sweet as I can:
DS took to waking very early a few months back and I thought possibly that was a sign that it was time to drop a nap. So I dropped the afternoon nap, the best in terms of schedules and fitting in with his activities. Just over a month on and he's not sleeping any longer at night and is tired and grumpy all day long. This weekend involved a lot of long car journeys where despite my best efforts he had long naps in the afternoon and he's been the boy I remember again - much happier, more playful, less clingy. I'm pretty certain I just dropped a nap to soon for him but is this swapping and changing of routine going to really mess with him? Having made the decision is it better to stick with it? Help! He's 17 months if that helps.

He seems v young to no longer have a nap. My 2yo DD still has 2 hours after lunch thank god

17months! My DS is 3.7 but still sometimes has a nap in the afternoon, either in car or sometimes on sofa with his special blanket, it never affects his night-time sleep. Definitely reinstate the nap. IMO, being well rested helps us to have a restful night.

lol it is bliss when they're sleeping! He does also have a morning nap. Used to be like clockwork, 1.5 hours in the morning, 1.5 in the afternoon. So he is still getting some nap time, just not as much....

I think the afternoon nap is normally the last to go, fill up on lunch then snooze Smile. Maybe reinstate then drop morning nap later if needed?

liking that idea Bobby....

God no, give him the nap back. My ds is nearly 3 and still has 2 hours nap a day.

Ha, glad it's not just me. DS is 16 months and sleeps for 2 hours in morning (usually 10 - 12-ish). That seemd to do him fine from about 10 or 12 months, and then he started walking at 14 months... Now, if he's awake, he's on the move and by teatime he's an absolute disaster - knackered, crying, crashing into things. I have 2 older DC and managing him whilst trying to sort out their tea, reading, etc was just grim. I decided a month ago (after a bad run of teatimes with him clinging to my legs crying whilst i was trying to cook) that he just had to have another nap in the afternoon. Most people would say it's mad letting a toddler sleep after 4pm but I put him to bed when we get in from school at around 4pm and he sleeps for 30 - 45 mins. Hey presto! Teatime is now much more manageable and he still sleeps at night. I do sometimes feel like I barely see him during the day though... Keep the nap!

Ds was still napping when he was 3.

From 3-4 yrs we had quite time reading a book after lunch.
