Presents that aren't really presents?!

Anyone else have this with their DH/DP?

DH: "I got you a present!"
Me: "ooh thanks, a Twix! Yum!"
...a few minutes later
DH: "are you going to open it then?"
Me: "not yet"
DH: "can I have it then"

Gahhhhh! Just buy one for yourself & stop pretending you got it for me! Drives me mad Angry

you: "no, you gave it to me, I'll eat it later when I want, thanks."

CanIOfferYouAPombear · 17/09/2012 21:21

Just say "yes I am" next time and eat it.

BobbysBeardOfWonder · 17/09/2012 21:24

He would seriously get the huff if I denied him half. It's the pretence of buying it "for me" that I get Hmm about. He could just say he bought it and give me half.

Is he dieting? Because he wants half not a whole twix.

SheelaNeGoldGig · 17/09/2012 21:27

The cat presented me with a headless chewed partridge yesterday.

^^...bwahahaha...my cats leave me gifts like that all the time...apparently they doubt my hunting abilities..

BobbysBeardOfWonder · 17/09/2012 21:32

At least they don't ask for it back Wink

ny dh does this! he will buy me a box of chocolates and then eat one every time he goes near the box or share them with the children, last time i got 1 chocolate out of a full box!

MsVestibule · 17/09/2012 21:33

I looked after my sister's garden every day (watered the lawn, plants and hanging baskets etc.) while she was on a two week holiday. Her "thank you present" to me was a DFS £100 off voucher that had been put through her door while she was away Hmm.

I know it's not the same as your twix-that-was-for-him-not-for-you story, but just had to get that off my chest.

Oh yes he does that too mamma

I've given up hoping there will be any left for me. Ever. He doesn't even have our DC as excuses, they are too young.

Thank you, Wandering, I'm pleased somebody shares my outrage.

I've just thought of another "thank you present" I received from somebody. I did three loads of washing for a sick friend, and really, really didn't expect or want a present in return. I certainly didn't want the bird shit covered (and I mean covered) toddler trike that her DS had finished with and she thought my DS might like. It would gave taken several sponges and buckets of hot soapy water to get it anywhere near clean, so I had to swallow my green(ish) principles and bin it.

On both occasions I smiled and said "Oh, that's great, thanks.". Fecking idiot; I get what I deserve, don't I?

DontmindifIdo · 18/09/2012 11:51

oh dear lord, no one eats my chocolates without permission - DH knows after I shouted, threw a hissy fit and then sulked after I explained early in our relationship that my chocolate is mine. Once chocolate has been given to me, it is for me only. If I offer him some, that's fine, but he wouldn't dare ask and to just take chocolate from me is not going to end well...

Proudnscary · 18/09/2012 11:56

My children do that all the time and I find it quite funny - if my dh did it, I'd twat him one

phantomnamechanger · 18/09/2012 12:14

JOKE
2 blokes in the pub

bill : what did you get the missus for valentines day?
fred : a new bag and a new belt
bill: thats nice
fred: yeah, I told her the hoover will work much better now

BigFatLegsInWoolyTIghts · 18/09/2012 12:50

I get annoyed if someone calls a Twix a PRESENT! That's not a present it is a necessity.

JeremyKylesPetProject · 18/09/2012 13:24

My dh expects half of my food. I rarely finish a meal and he is now used to this. The other night I put two Enchiladas on my plate (he had 3) and when I started eating the second one he did a groan and said "Oh I wanted that!" Cheek. :o

Chelvis · 18/09/2012 13:28

I get bought TV boxsets that I don't dislike, but are series he loves He then watches them before me when I'm asleep/out! But I do steal his water when I can't be bothered to go get a glass Blush

JeremyKylesPetProject · 18/09/2012 13:28

Also if dh ever bought me anything (even half a choc bar) I'd be thrilled. I said "Why don't you ever treat me to anything? Even little things like a bar of choc or naice M&S cookie etc?" "I pay the mortgage" is his deadpan this-answer-fits-everything-answer.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 18/09/2012 13:31

When you are given chocolates put them away in your tshirt drawer. Easy.

HecateHarshPants · 18/09/2012 13:37

open it, lick both halves and put it away for later.

MsKayGee · 18/09/2012 13:38

Presents that are really just some old crap that someone else wants rid of are definitely the most annoying as in MsVestibule's shit covered trike.

Although my SIL is starting to really get on my tits with her 'presents'. For every, and I mean every special occasion - birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas - me, DH and DS all get a framed photo of her DD. The look on my DS's face on his last birthday - seriously, what eight year old boy wants a framed photo of his 5 year old cousin dressed in a tinkerbell outfit Hmm.

I wouldn't mind but the last one I got on my birthday was a photo of her DD that I'd taken and tagged SIL into on Facebook, so it was MY fucking photo in the first place.

timetosmile · 18/09/2012 13:42

DH bought (and beautifully wrapped) a tent peg mallett for my birthday once to be fair, it wasn't the only present he gave me

HecateHarshPants · 18/09/2012 13:43

You can always hit him with it Grin
