My daughter is nearly 6 and has recently 'discovered' the Disney Channel with all those (to me anyway) horrible sitcoms (I dont know what else to call them) such as "Jessie", "Good Luck Charlie", "Ant Farm", "Wizards Of Waverley Place" etc. I think some of them are a bit too old for her (the first 2 I mentioned seem OK though) - High school stuff with love interest themes and bullying etc. To be honest I cant bear to sit and watch them for long - do you think its OK for a 5/6 yr old to watch these? Horrifyingly I noticed my DD started talking with that awful inflection at the end of sentences (making them all sound like a question) which I am assuming she is getting from these - she also said "IN YOUR FACE"! which I have heard them saying in these progs. Or am I over-reacting and well, being a bit snobbish? PS: I have comes to terms its not going to be all-day Blue Peter and Newsround for her

We don't have the Disney Channel anymore but my dd (7) watches CBBC which I don't mind. My friend is despairing of her daughter and iCarly but I don't know much about that one.

My two year old accidentally watched some breaking bad with me t'other day. He loved it.

My dd is 6 but she's a very 'young' 6 iyswim. We also have aforementioned toddler so she often watches cartoons with him. Have you got Netflix? Get her watching stuff like The Princess Bride. I just introduced DD to this and she's obsessed with it.

Fivehoursleep - My DDs are 6, 9 and 10 but the 9 year old is very influenced by these kinds of shows and started echoing the phrases. There has been a marked reduction in mouthing off and cheek since I banned them.

When my 13yo DD puts on the telly it will always be a show with hideous American teens saying hideous American things in a hideous American accent!!! Sorry if you're American, but Arrgghhh it drives me mental.

really needed to get that off my chest.

Little americanisms have crept into her language - 'butt' instead of bum. Shopping mall. My bad etc.

I grin and bare it some of the time. I make her watch something else when i cant be doing with hearing it.
