For sticky back plastic -ing?

We have to do DS 1's exercise books. I've done them. They look shit.

Yup, they are right - cut out the shape in the plastic but DO NOT take the backing off. Line up the book and take off the backing of the very corner of the plastic. Press the book down, and keep pulling off the backing, cm by cm, pushing it flat as you go. Do that for the whole thing - time consuming but it will look good. There may be some bubbles, but you should be able to push them to the edges and get rid of them. Ripping the whole backing off is the worst possible thing you can do!

I'm pissing myself at camouflage books!

I always had fetching blown vinyl books. The only person I felt superior to was the poor bugger with woodchip!

Sparklingbrook · 17/09/2012 19:29

Is that the same as anaglypta? Keith?

Sparklingbrook · 17/09/2012 19:29

Sorry-rogue ? ^

Cathycomehome · 17/09/2012 20:38

They're done, despite advice incredibly badly. Sod it. They're not my books anyway. Smile

Oh Cathy, that makes me actually Sad thinking of your poor creased bubbly books. There is a lovely satisfaction in covering books with sticky backed plastic, and I will cross my fingers that the DCs will be asked to do it when they get to secondary school.

whatsonyourplate · 17/09/2012 21:43

Too late now, but what about something like this next time Book covers ?

Cathycomehome · 17/09/2012 22:23

Good idea, but the directive from above was definitely sticky backed plastic the sadists ...... Maybe it will inspire ds1 to actually do some work this year to get through them more quickly

I'll send the next ones to some of you weirdos who seem to actively enjoy this torture. [ grin]

cut to size. don't peel. put in situ. take long ruler and put it on the clear plastic side. gently peel a tiny bit of backing from underneath, pressing with long ruler. as you continue - its like the pressure of the ruler, on the clear plastic side, pushes the backing off. easier to do than describe. very effective.
its been 20 years since i did this stuff. maybe the technology has advanced...

Happybunny12 · 18/09/2012 03:09

(sorry this is completely off thread)

Aha! Now I know why I've been singing 'wouldn't it be luver-ly' for the last couple of weeks! Must have seen another post by alliwantisaroomsomewhere !!

And cut a triangle out of the middle of the long sides where the spine will be, and off the corners so they fold down inside the book cover and all tuck in neatly.

WinklyFriedChicken · 18/09/2012 08:09

Make your child do it, we always did our own, problem solved forever :)

RubberBullets · 18/09/2012 10:43

I still want to know why you are doing this. I've never heard of it before

Sparklingbrook · 18/09/2012 10:45

Ds1 has only been told to cover his Geography book so far. Confused I asked him why but he didn't know.

MrsKeithRichards · 18/09/2012 11:41

I think so sparkling!

Sparklingbrook · 18/09/2012 11:42

Our house in the 70s had a lot of Anaglypta and a bit of 'flock' Keith. Classy. Grin
