To Be VERY P'd Off With Next Flowers?

PopOozeTheFastest · 15/09/2012 14:36

Today is my friend's birthday. She's a very good friend who has recently been diagnosed with a nasty illness & is starting intensive chemo next week. We don't normally spend very much money on each other's birthday (as none of our friendship group is very well off) but, this year, I wanted to do something a bit more special and ordered some lovely looking flowers, a balloon & chocolates from Next, to be delivered today.

I placed the order several days ago BTW, it wasn't a short-notice, next day delivery type situation.

Today, at 2pm, I get a phonecall from Next to tell me that the flowers have been delivered to the wrong depot at the other end of the country & will not be delivered until Monday or maybe Tuesday and would that be OK? No, I say, no that won't be OK at all. They then offer to refund me by way of a giftcard - not a refund back to my debit card - as flower orders cannot be cancelled once they have been paid for!!

I have organised alternative flowers from Interflora who, luckily, offer same day delivery up to 3pm BUT have ended up paying more than I can really afford for something comparable, as they are more expensive & I am now paying a premium for same day delivery!

I hope I don't sound mean, my friend is more than worth the money, it's more the inconvenience of being let down at the last minute. So, AIBU to be p'd off with Next or not?

Phone head office and insist on refund the way you paid! You should also get goodwill.

M&S would replace or refund and offer goodwill, you can order up to six day before!

Tryingtobenice · 15/09/2012 19:11

Yanbu. They could and should do so much more. John Lewis had a similar problem for my mums birthday and they went to interflora themselves to order a replacement. They also still sent the original flowers and apologised for the mistake!

That's why their profits are doing so well in the recession, customer loyalty is earned.

RobotLover68 · 15/09/2012 19:18

Next did this to me 8 years ago for my nan's 90th birthday - I got onto someone at head office and they paid for interflora same day - which was extremely expensive!

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 15/09/2012 19:22

YANBU and I would soooooo insist on a refund! Can't believe they are saying you are not entitled to one! That can't be right surely as they fucked up not you?! A gift card screams "goodwill gesture", like it's your fault or something and the girftcard is a favour and to keep you sweet. Hmm

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 17/09/2012 14:59

Has anyone got their flowers on time?

I'm panicking now, as mum hasn't said hers have arrived yet for her birthday, which is today Confused

Purple2012 · 17/09/2012 15:07

Yanbu. They should refund as they haven't provided the service you have paid for.

OscarPistoriusGirlfriend · 17/09/2012 15:11

Complain away on social
Media and nothing will be done at all. See my broken tumble dryer thread.

Next are utterly useless.

Hammy02 · 17/09/2012 15:11

I haven't set foot in that place since finding out that they pay £2.60 per hour for apprentices despite making £251 million profit last year. Exploitative cunts.

zipzap · 17/09/2012 15:11

Another vote for contacting head office as well as using twitter and facebook to complain.

I'd also check this out on the moneysavingexpert.com forum and see if anyone there can be more specific about what your rights are in this situation - and copy in Martin Lewis from mse or tweet it to him and see what he says - he's usually quite interested in situations like this...

OscarPistoriusGirlfriend · 17/09/2012 15:13

Oh and I emailed the CEO. Nothing. Not
Even an acknowledgment. Angry

DogsCock · 17/09/2012 15:21

Go straight through to customer service and lodge a formal compalint.

You ordered and paid for flowers to be delivered on a certain date. They accepted your payment to do thus.

They did not do thus.

They owe you a full refund, and also to send your friend some flowers gratis.

PopOozeTheFastest · 17/09/2012 23:30

Hello! Thank you for your replies. No, still not had a reply to my e-mail Angry.

I don't normally use Twitter but do have an account, so maybe that's the best thing to try.

I'm sorry, but not surprised, to hear that so many of you have had a similar experience Sad.

YANBU - Next are shite and having suffered at the hands of their truly shocking online ordering (culminating in me writing a number of lengthy complaint letters that aged me about 10 years) I would never ever ever buy anything from them online again.

It took an age of complaining to get anywhere, they couldn't give a shit about customers, frankly. ((sorry))

PopOozeTheFastest · 20/09/2012 10:01

Just to update - I now have my full cash refund & and am awaiting/working on the compensation claim Smile.

excellent! well done!

chicaguapa · 20/09/2012 12:40

I ordered some Next flowers to be delivered to my mum in hospital. But the hospital wouldn't allow the flowers in so Next phoned me to ask what to do. They offered to redeliver them to my mum when she was at home, which is what they did. Fresh flowers btw, not the same ones. And there was no extra charge. I thought that was good service.

bubalou · 20/09/2012 12:41

If a product is faulty or hasn't arrived you don't get a 'giftcard' back - u get a fucking refund!

Speak to customer services.

Pancakeflipper · 20/09/2012 12:47

Haven't used Next for several years for flowers but didn't have a problem with delivery. Though was disappointed when my parents emailed me a photo of some flowers I sent to my Grandma - pitiful. Looked nothing like what I ordered

Now WatchDog journo's - jump on the bandwagon and do a feature on it, looks to be enough fed up customers. Though did giggle at the baby boy balloon, brilliant cock up that

BupcakesandCunting · 20/09/2012 12:48

YANBU

Hope your friend makes a speedy recovery.

bubby64 · 20/09/2012 12:49

My husband had this problem with next when he wanted some and a gift delivered to me at work for my 40th b/day, they did not arrive, and, because they were meant as a surprise, I sepnt the day very upset with my DH as I thought he had forgotten me! It took 4 phonecalls, 3 emails and a letter written to the managing director before it was sorted out, but, eventually, he got his money refunded and compensation, but it still upsets me to remember what an utterly miserable day I had, and the the way it made me think about my DH that day!

OatcakeCravings · 20/09/2012 13:48

YANBU I ordered Next flowers a few years ago for my Mum, they were 5 days late and half of them were dead when they arrivd. My lovely Mum didn't tell me as she didn't want me to think she was disappointed with her gift. It wasn't until ages aftewards she mentioned it. I have never used them since which is a shame for Next as i probably spend several hundred pounds a year on flowers.

redroseredrose19 · 09/08/2019 23:31

omg hope the flowers( £40 ) that ive just ordered are ok

Andysbestadventure · 09/08/2019 23:39

Yanbu. Next Flowers are awful in general tbh. Always best using a local florist.
