MmeLindor · 15/09/2012 11:02

Yes Rinders, I was just about to post a compliment about her accepting she was being U and taking the comments well.

messyisthenewtidy · 15/09/2012 11:03

Oh bugger I'd devised message then it went poof! There's 5 mins of my life I won't ever get back Sad

Sparklingbrook · 15/09/2012 11:03

That's a good point Rindercella, far too reasonable. Wink

WorraLiberty · 15/09/2012 11:04

I don't have pages either...just one continuous page.

Perhaps she was sock puppeting or something?

BlackberryIce · 15/09/2012 11:07

Unusual for it to go so quick on a saturday

MyOrangeDogShitsGoldMoney · 15/09/2012 11:08

Bizarre. Didn't bother posting as it was just such a peculiar thread but what a thoroughly odd thing to make up Confused

Definitely change your setting so you view the whole thread as one page. It's revelation! I used to fume if a thread went poof as I turned a page.

HecateHarshPants · 15/09/2012 11:09

apparently she was not as she seemed.

I want to know what that means.

troll? banned poster?

How can MN know that the person is lying? They can't. They can't possibly know that the person does not have a 13 yr old daughter and that that daughter wasn't cheeky to her teacher. So what can they know? That the person has been previously banned?

Of course, this thread will go poooof in a moment, but I would still like to know Grin

WorraLiberty · 15/09/2012 11:11

I think that's it Hecate, all they can really know is that the person has been banned/is sock puppeting/has previously stated under another name that they don't have children I suppose?

HecateHarshPants · 15/09/2012 11:11

And she was reasonable. She took all the points on board and acknowledged she'd been a bit precious.

World's WORST troll. They're supposed to get arsy and angry, not climb down and thank people for their perspective! Grin

MyOrangeDogShitsGoldMoney · 15/09/2012 11:12

Hec, is it wrong that I just read that last post in a really whiny voice?! Grin

HecateHarshPants · 15/09/2012 11:12

They can't even know that they don't have children. Unless they have checked BDM and found no birth certs Grin

HecateHarshPants · 15/09/2012 11:13

oh, sorry worra Grin misread that totally Hmm thought MN could somehow know if someone had children.

Hmm WTF am I on?

It was in a whiny voice, MyOrange. A very whiney one.

BlackberryIce · 15/09/2012 11:14

I think changing details to avoid recognition is allowed.

I would like to know how it's worked out too Hecate

MyOrangeDogShitsGoldMoney · 15/09/2012 11:16

but how do they knoooooow? Grin

It's true though, it baffles me. I'd bloody love to know how they work their special lie-detector thingy!

StuntGirl · 15/09/2012 11:18

Went to make breakfast and when I came back it was gone [sulk] Am definitely doing show all posts next time.

HecateHarshPants · 15/09/2012 11:20

they cannot know that the person is lying about the situation. They just can't. The level of investigation required to find out if, for example, the person has a 13yr old daughter and if that daughter was rude to her teacher and if that teacher called her 'vile' would be ridiculous Grin so they cannot know whether or not it is true.

All they can possibly - probably - know is if a person has previously been banned. Or if a person has admitted to them that they lied. Or if a person is running more than one account as different people. That sort of thing.

But they cannot tell whether or not the actual situation described is true.

Unless they have private detectives up and down the country checking these things out Grin

messyisthenewtidy · 15/09/2012 11:22

MyOrange, they've probably been on a training course on how to spot trolls!

BlackberryIce · 15/09/2012 11:25

Banned theory...... How can they be banned if they get back in so easily, I dont think ip addresses can be that reliable though.

Sock puppet theory...... How would they pick it up on such SN innocuous thread as that one?

BlackberryIce · 15/09/2012 11:27

I have a new theory.

A goader..... A previously banned poster with a huge grudge. Keeps coming back and posting a thread...... Then reports herself to hq saying ' still here, done it again, you are crap at this'

MyOrangeDogShitsGoldMoney · 15/09/2012 11:34

Nah, I reckon they know.

HecateHarshPants · 15/09/2012 11:36

I am not a techy person, but aren't you given a different IP address every time you connect to the internet?

I only know this (think I know this!) cos my husband's business has a 'static IP' cos they've got a server that customers log onto. And normal IPs are 'dynamic'.

or something. I don't know. I'm happy if I can just turn on the pc in the first place Grin

It's what CCTV is for, innit?

You think they are viewing streets and erm, stuff, but they are actually looking in your windows ...

Salmotrutta · 15/09/2012 11:42

I thought IP thingummyjigs were your computer "address" and they stay the same?

But then I'm not that savvy - I'd be a rubbish troll/spy/covert operator.

MmeLindor · 15/09/2012 11:42

Hecate
I think it is the other way around. You normally have a static IP (ie. it doesn't change) but can get yourself a dynamic IP so that you have a different one. I did it in Switzerland, so that I could watch BBC online. I signed up for a UK IP address and then BBC could not track that I wasn't in UK.

It would also mean that I could have trolled MN if I had signed up under a different email address. They would have no way of knowing that I was Mme.
