AIBU to demand this couple stop smoking and report them

So I was in the garage today when a car pulled in with a mum and dad in the front, two toddlers and a baby in the back.

Windows closed (not that I think that makes a difference) and both were smoking.

As man got out of car (still smoking) I said to him that he had to put the cigarette out as he was risking all our lives and that he shouldn't be smoking in a confined space with his kids anyway!

He just put the fag back in the car in the ashtray, while his Mrs lit up another cigarette laughing!

So reported them to garage who went out and told them to put them out. They were kicking off t high heaven as I walked out.

Anyway when told DH he said while he agreed In principle he felt I was being unreasonable by "getting involved" as could have got nasty and I'm seven months pregnant.

Should I have just kept my mouth shut?

Here

Gosh, you really are a very nice person. I feel even worse now, especially as you are duffed-up and everything Blush

I also witnessed two women smoking while driving into a petrol station and both smoking with 2 small babies in rear facing baby seats and all windows closed.
Driver left her cigarette smouldering in the ash tray while putting petrol in her car while her friend carried on smoking and windows all closed. poor kids.

How can anyone do this?

FWIW I always have a good gorm at my fellow petrol station patrons. In fact, whenever I'm out anywhere in public I stare at folk like an uninhibited 3 year old. I don't get out much.

Smoking at a petrol station is a health and safety issue. As for smoking in the car with DC, well, it's not the best thing to do. However, its not that long ago since people thought it was totally acceptable.

My mum told me that she remembers a visit from the health visitor while she was sat there breast feeding me while smoking a fag and drinking a coffee. Back in them days that was normal.

So, if smoking around children was that bad, surely lots of us would be dead by now? Hmm I'm not saying it's nice for the kids, or the right thing to do, but ffs, it's hardly the end of the world.

OP, please don't approach people like this. They are clearly horrible bastards. I'm with your DH.
