To think there's a bride out there, who might be a little miffed tomorrow...

Another stall holder here sells cupcakes. She has just been approached by a bloke asking if she sells her cupcakes off cheap at the end of the day... For his wedding tomorrow!...
Or if she could make him some for tomorrow. 300. In one night. And if she could do them cheap for him! As he doesn't have a cake yet!

I hope that they are just having a last minute low budget wedding.

YABU for not saying whether he was able to do them :)

Shesparkles · 14/09/2012 11:39

I wonder if the cake was the one thing she trusted him to do.....Grin

scentednappyhag · 14/09/2012 11:42

Last minute baker relative let down? I'm sure I've seen threads like that before Grin
I hope he's not just being a twat!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 14/09/2012 11:49

Ahh, I dunno. TBH I think 300 shop-bought cupcakes would be a step up from most of the 'wedding cupcakes' I've had the misfortune to eat! Cheap and practical too.

Maybe the bride even knows he's doing it and approves? It does occasionally happen, I believe.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 14/09/2012 11:49

Me too sparkles! Grin

I make wedding cupcakes, lots of people have cupcakes as well as a traditional cake. My last bride served them instead of welcome canapes. Last minute idea maybe?

If they just wanted plain frosted ones, nonintricate decoration, I could probably do 300 in a night, I'd charge a fucking hefty extra fee for the lack of sleep though!

Budget wedding - 300 guests????

LaurieFairyCake · 14/09/2012 12:07

I have to agree about wedding cupcakes, every single one I've ever had has been horribly dry and claggy but the ordinary ones from M&S have been nice and soft.

Maybe it's the one moment in your cake life we need some preservatives to keep them soft Grin

Badgerina · 14/09/2012 12:09

I had cupcakes at my wedding - red velvet ones from the Hummingbird Bakery. They were divine Grin

Did the stall-holder make any?

MrsRajeshKoothrappali · 14/09/2012 12:10

I went to wedding where they had Mr. Kiplings French Fancies!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 14/09/2012 12:10

Glad it's not just me laurie! The worst were terribly claggy 'fruitcake' cupcakes (why?! Who wants heavy fruitcake made up as a cupcake, it doesn't bake properly and is like sawdust), iced very clumsily in blue icing with glitter on the top so it got all over your hands. I kept automatically glancing around for a toddler to say 'oh, well done!' to, as if felt as if one had made them.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 14/09/2012 12:14

The stall holder has t heard back from him yet. He definitely said he needed them because he doesnt have a cake yet! Shock

I used to work in a jewellery shop years ago when I was a student.

Had a woman come in at 8pm one night, an hour before closing time, asking if we had 4 of a certain necklace as she wanted them for her bridesmaids. She was all jittery when I had a look in overstock and could only find 2. Said she was getting married in the morning and needed them.

Not sure why she hadn't thought of coming in sooner, but I didn't like to ask.

That fella looking for 300 cupcakes was crazy! Confused

sooperdooper · 14/09/2012 14:16

They should just not bother having a cake at all, we didn't and nobody even noticed Grin

EmpressOfTheGoldOceans · 14/09/2012 14:17

Not exactly the same but my DM used to work in a Spar. They had a woman come in Christmas morning one year wanting a turkey with all the trimmings, Xmas cake, mince pies, pudding & crackers.

StormGlass · 14/09/2012 14:19

Oh dear. He's being a little optimistic to think there, isn't he?

My SIL had a cupcake tower at her wedding, she got about 250 cupcakes from M&S. But she ordered them in advance, to be sure of having enough.

You've all never had a nice wedding cupcake because you've never had one of mine Grin

MadBusLady · 14/09/2012 14:28

Whatever's going on, he's got a bleedin nerve asking for her to do them cheap! Confused How could he possibly think that was an appropriate condition?

What did she say? I'd have to be absolutely desperate for my first big break to say yes to that, he sounds like a nightmare client.

StormGlass · 14/09/2012 14:32

zumbahater, he might have trouble finding 300 cupcakes in M&S this afternoon.

But he could buy some of the iced fruitcakes that they sell instead. Our local M&S ususally has 3 or 4 different sized ones of those, and a display of little cake pillars next to them.

MadBusLady · 14/09/2012 14:35

If she's going to do it tell her to make him understand how long it's going to take, because he's probably never baked a cupcake in his life and thinks they just happen. And yes, HUGE extra fee for the inconvenience.

I am quite cross about self-employed people getting taken advantage of at the moment after that accountancy thread!

cfc · 14/09/2012 14:54

Was a film crew following him a la Don't Tell The Bride?

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 14/09/2012 15:06

No. No film crew! I feel really sorry for the poor bride!
