To throw away a whole box of M&S Chinese food?

I'm 18 wks preg and recovering from severe pneumonia (going for the sympathy vote here).... DH has kindly been to M&S and bought lots of lovely food so I don't have to do too much this week.

Anyway, one of the things he has bought is a box of Chinese takeaway dishes. Now, I love M&S generally but I find their Chinese stuff bland. I think it is too healthy for my disgusting palate. It is out of date today. Earlier on in preg I ate a similar thing from M&S and threw up (pregnancy related, not bad food).

So, basically, I really feel like I can't face it. But I can't throw the whole lot in the bin, can I?! My mum doesn't want it and I can't freeze it.....

You can prob freeze it, I freeze everything

KenDoddsDadsDog · 14/09/2012 08:21

Massive waste.

DilysPrice · 14/09/2012 08:22

Can't DH eat it? (or play BBE roulette and take it into work for lunch tomorrow)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 14/09/2012 08:22

Or give it to DH for his dinner later? Save you cooking

IcouldstillbeJoseph · 14/09/2012 08:22

It does say unsuitable for home freezing?! Shall I ignore that?

Sorry pressed post too soon.... Offer it to neighbours or friends, post it to me Smile

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 14/09/2012 08:22

Offer it to a friend.

IcouldstillbeJoseph · 14/09/2012 08:22

DH is away for tonight and the weekend so no chance of palming it off onto him

Kendodds - it's yours!

I always freeze stuff that says unsuitable, generally it means it will affect the flavoured or texture slightly but that's all

CailinDana · 14/09/2012 08:25

Throw it away. You're pregnant, just getting over an illness and it's too much bother to sort out a good home for it. No point eating food you don't want, it's silly.

CailinDana · 14/09/2012 08:26

I am also about 18 wks pregnant, getting over a very nasty cold (not pneumonia thank god, poor you) and I just can't be arsed about anything. I would throw away the contents of the entire fridge if it annoyed me enough at the moment.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 14/09/2012 08:27

Or give it to kendoddsdadsdog :)

IcouldstillbeJoseph · 14/09/2012 08:28

Cailindana - hope you feel better soon. It's just such a big box of food I would feel so bad seeing it in the bin!

If it says unsuitable it could be because it has already been frozen to transport/store and defrosted or made with pre frozen ingredients so personally I wouldn't ignore that instruction.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 14/09/2012 08:31

Yes maybe best to be careful especially since you are rundown and pregnant :)

Lolwhut · 14/09/2012 08:37

I would bin it, feel a little bit guilty and move on......

I agree M & S Chinese is not great.

valiumredhead · 14/09/2012 08:40

No way would I freeze ready made food - about the only thing I wouldn't freeze mind you.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 14/09/2012 08:41

Listen to these people rather than me, who just got over food poisoning Grin no guilt required over binning it

valiumredhead · 14/09/2012 08:45

I thought when you were pregnant the advice was to steer clear of all foods from the chiller cabinet? Back in the day (11 years ago) that's what the advice was.

starfishmummy · 14/09/2012 08:52

Just bin it if you don't want to eat it.

IcouldstillbeJoseph · 14/09/2012 08:54

Valium - the advice is to reheat all ready meals thoroughly. If I had to avoid all chiller foods I'd have starved by now!

Freeze it, feed it BF.

Honestly don't waste it. If its been previously commercially frozen the risk of refreezing is tiny.

Secondsop · 14/09/2012 09:03

I'd bin it. Yes it's a waste but you're pregnant and have been unwell. You sound like you're pretty waste-conscious generally so I reckon you're owed a break on this one. I find it hard enough to find things that I want to eat during pregnancy without having to worry about what will be seen as a waste to throw away.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 14/09/2012 09:06

Can you tell I'm trying to be good before my holidays Grin Chinese mmmmmmmm come to me.
