To wish that drivers wouldn't wave kids across the road.

I'm trying to teach the kids to cross the road safely and having people slow down to wave them across just confuses them and is potentially dangerous.
I know people are being considerate and I appreciate the gesture but it makes it really hard to teach kids about road safety.

I've just refused to cross and waved the driver on (was perfectly pleasant and smiley) and got a charming 2 fingered salute

Aside from it being polite (or so I thought!) to wave someone across if possible, I think if there's someone with young children waiting on a traffic island it's much safer for me to stop and wave them across than drive past. The traffic islands are so narrow and I worry about a child dash away from their parent into the road. I feel very vulnerable waiting on an island with DD with traffic on both sides (and yes I do always keep hold of her).
