To not pay a parking charge

I was parked in a retail car park yesterday afternoon for about half an hour and on returning to my car I saw that I had a yellow sticker attached to my windscreen. It was a charge for £90 which stated 'not parked correctly within the markings of the bay or space'

I use p and c spaces if available as I really struggle getting uncooperative three year old dd and sleeping baby ds in and out if cars are parked either side. No spaces available yesterday so as it wasn't busy I parked far away from the shops so no other cars were next to me.

I would never win any prizes for parking and yesterday I was indeed over the white lines but as that section of the car park was empty I didn't think about straightening up so wrangled the dc out the car and did my shopping.

I know IABU for having a stupid large car that I struggle to park and for being lazy in not parking properly but my DH says to ignore the charge and any other letters and I'm not so sure.

So AIBU to not pay. Thanks.

Cos it might get busy, and other, less important people might want to park there! Fuck 'em....

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 13/09/2012 14:02

So if that makes me selfish and unreasonable, then so be it

Then be it so, because you are! Next time I see a car doing this, I do awfully hope it's not a windy day and that I grip my trolley extra extra tightly....

LtEve - I agree, in a sane world this would be so. But I have previously had people park right next to me even though they are also miles from the entrance.

InMySpareTime · 13/09/2012 14:14

Action could you buy two car park tickets and display them both to indicate to car park attendants that you are legitimately using two spaces?

ActionLiposomes · 13/09/2012 14:17

SpareTime that's a fair challenge. However I hardly ever use pay car parks. The ones I normally use are free supermarket ones. If I were in a pay car park, I don't think I would take up 2 spaces. I would probably go for a corner or end of row space, where you can park over the line without encroaching on another space.

Action, ah yes, herd metality...I understand.

Rain- I just wanted to send you good luck with the parking. Believe me, it is possible to go from unconfident driver to being able to park but it takes practise. I have no spatial awereness and I have finally got it but I was thrown in at the deep end with a big company car and tight spaces to park in.

Good luck!!!
