To 'sell' an item but ask for a charitable donation instead of actual payment?

I was given a buggy by a friend a couple of years ago. I don't know anyone personally that I could pass it on to now I don't need it and I'd feel weird selling it on for actual cash when I spent nothing on it myself.

AIBU to list it on a selling website and ask for a specific amount to be donated to my chosen DV charity or might it seem pushy?

Not at all - a lot of people eBay for charity. That sounds like a lovely idea.

Could you just sell it as normal and send the cash yourself?

I would say if you want to be sure the money actually goes to the charity you take the payment and then make the donation yourself.

Thanks. I'd planned to ask for a cheque made out to the charity. I volunteer with them so at least I'd know the money got to them.

You could look into donating it to a women's refuge or something similar?

cucumbereyes · 12/09/2012 19:12

Perhaps you could list it on freecycle?

NoToastWithoutKnickers · 12/09/2012 21:49

Good idea blue I hadn't thought of that.
My local freecycle is fairly crap from what I can tell. I've never used it before and I'm really keen for this particular organisation to benefit.

Thanks everyone Smile

Give it to your local charity shop.
