About school cover lessons

DD's first full week back in year 10. Today 3 out of 5 classes were given by cover teachers as the class teachers were away. I get the impression they were more supervised than taught as the cover teachers were from different subjects.

I don't think the teachers were off sick as something is usually said when this is the case.

This issue was narking me last year and I'm inclined to say something now before the year gets too far in. Should I complain? Are there any standards schools have to adhere to around this?

First time in aibu so that must mean I'm a bit annoyed!

We would never get 5 staff in the same department off at the same time for training!

manic, teachers (in state education, at any rate) are paid for 1265 hours.

named changed as this will out me in RL!

I had surgery yesterday; tried really hard to get a cancellation so it was done in the school holidays but there wasn't any.

I have 3 new year 10 GCSE groups who I am extremely anxious about having to start their course without a specialist and spent hours producing lesson plans/resources that can easily be followed by a non-specialist. The last thing that 95% of teachers want is to have their classes covered as

1: it causes us a lot of prep work in setting cover
2: it sets our groups back against an already tight time schedule in covering all we need to
3: inevitably the vast majority of work set isn't completed and causes further set backs

however, sometimes it is inevitable that this will happen.

I am aghast personally at the moment as I was hoping to only be off work for a week, but got told yesterday that it will be 2 weeks minimum before I am fit although I will more than likely declare myself well next week due to the above reasons
