to feel bad we didn't go to the Olympics or Paralympics

I think it's terrible we didn't go, all of dd's friends have been to watch something and I think we have missed out on the chance of a lifetime :(

However, I am disabled and have had GBS and fibromyalgia, basically I feel exhausted most of the time and the thought of travelling to London and having to walk miles makes me feel even worse! My DH did suggest going in my wheelchair but taking that on a train as well as a baby and a buggy would be a bloody nightmare. Also I believe some people have been allocated different seats so the disabled person gets to sit on their own, while the rest of their family sit somewhere else.

Now it's all over though I still think we should have made some effort to go, especially when I see all the fantastic paralympic athletes and what they have achieved, really puts me to shame.

YABU to feel bad.

Loads of people didn't go to the Olympics.

Your DD will get over it.

Is she even bothered?

RaisinDEtre · 10/09/2012 14:38

We didnt go, lack of money, fitting round work etc

I do care deep down, but y'know, we cut our cloth according to circs. Nb live a long long way from lympic venues so just no do able without massive outlay of ££££

Watched lots on tele Smile

Pendeen · 10/09/2012 16:04

The vast majority of the UK population did not go.

I think that, even though you wanted to go, given your circumstances, YANBU.

amillionyears · 10/09/2012 16:14

I am trying to remember if I saw any babies or young children there at all,and I dont think I did.
Children were few and far between imo.
I think you might have found it too much tbh.
There were also longish queues for food, and no one knew what the weather was going to be like either.
When your DD is older in her life she may get the opportunity to go,even in this country, and it would be nice to think you may be able to go too.

gallifrey · 10/09/2012 18:53

Yes that is a point, I forgot about the baby!! She would have been a nightmare, she can't sit still for 5 mins!

DH tried to get tickets and failed. I would have liked to go but these things happen. Only so many people can go. However, the reason I am on this thread is to boast, no stealth about it. We ran into the DW of one of the Canadian rowers on the flight home, then again with her DH, WHO LET ME AND DD HOLD HIS SILVER MEDAL. DD even bit it a bit.

betterwhenthesunshines · 10/09/2012 20:26

We're in London, and it seems everyone I know has managed to go at least twice. Some with last minute tickets.

We didn't get anything in the original ballot and I did try repeatedly to get tickets last minute. I would like to have gone, we enjoyed the TV coverage but I'm a bit sad it was HERE and we didn't make it. But at the end of the day I was prepared to cough up £240 a seat for 4 of us for a sporting event we wouldn't normally be intersted in.

PuppyMonkey · 10/09/2012 20:28

I didn't go and had absolutely no desire to either. I do not feel bad about this.

kinkyfuckery · 10/09/2012 20:29

Loads of people didn't go. Loads.

littleducks · 10/09/2012 20:31

We didnt go.

Couldnt have afforded the olympic tickets and didnt manage to get paralympic ones.

We went and saw the torch [shrugs]

NettOlympicSuperstar · 10/09/2012 20:32

We didn't go, never could have, for many reasons.
We're hoping to go to the Commonwealth games in 2014, but then we live near Glasgow.
I don't feel guilty at all.

ZiaMaria · 10/09/2012 21:38

Yabu to feel bad. I went to one event (free ticket) and only stayed half an hour anyway. Tbh it was pretty boring and I'd have got a better view on tv.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 10/09/2012 21:43

Don't feel bad. One of the brilliant things about the games was that it coudk be enjoyed without actually being there.

I have to disagree with million though, there were loads of babies and children of all ages in the park. I saw a two babies crying in the stadium, and another up on the big screen, it was too loud for them really.

Lovelygoldboots · 10/09/2012 22:25

I live in midlands and didn't go, there were a few of dcs friends that went but even if you live near the cost can be very expensive. You can see Bradley and cav for free at the moment as they are riding in the tour of Britain

LadyBeagleEyes · 10/09/2012 22:31

I didn't go, I never even tried for tickets.
I live in the North of Scotland and going to see them live was about as realistic as going to Beijing or Barcelona.
And I love the Olympics, but I'm sure i got a better view on my sofa.
I won't be going to Rio either, but I'm sure I won't miss a thing.

korvonia · 10/09/2012 22:44

We didn't go. I thought it would be really dull and I couldn't imagine why people wanted tickets. I regret it too - but wouldn't if I were in your situation.
