Just because ... well just because ... I fancy a change?

It would be madness ... wouldn't it?

It is very stressful and expensive. EA and Sduty and legal can be thousands. IMo only move out of Necessity

Mintyy · 10/09/2012 14:27

I know you're right.

But people do move just on a whim, don't they?

I did. Three years ago in march I said to dh, I fancy a change, shall we redecorate?
In July (the 4th) we moved in to our new house 25mules away. Chosen because it's living room better suits my choice of re decor. I only looked on the estate agents site to get some ideas for decorating.

Miles not mules!

violathing · 10/09/2012 14:55

What don't you like about our current home.?

Mintyy · 10/09/2012 14:58

Well. its only got one bathroom, for a start. Its a doer upper which we haven't done up! Have lost the will with it, tbh.

Also, I am a bit bored of the actual area where I live ... been here 17 years and in this house 8 years.

I would do it in a heartbeat if it weren't such a monumental effort Smile.

We are moving soon after the longest buying process in history, I'm pig sick of it. Just don't want to move after all the stress. Wondering why we bothered. We won't be moving again for a long long time!

pictish · 10/09/2012 15:09

Pregnantpause - I had to laugh at your post there. Grin
Your dh must be very amenable. Wink

Ach - yes, people DO move on a whim, it's true. I'm often thinking of the next house we're going to buy, even though we're in no position to move. I get itchy feet, bored...and have moved four times in 10 years.

This time though, we're staying. We have the best house we can afford, and the kids are really happy here. We won't move - but it doesn't stop me looking. And wishing.

It's a massive hassle though isn't it?

Mintyy · 10/09/2012 15:10

Oh dear, my sympathies, Blackberry.

Did you move out of necessity or could you have stayed in your old house?

We?ve moved over 10 times in 12 years and we loved it! Go for it!

We've just bought our first house and I'm already planning another move in 5 - 7 years. Moving is stressful but the experience of living all over London was great. We bought an 'already done upper' as i knew we wouldn't be here for long. We have loads of stuff and have filled the house but I wouldn?t change anything.

greenhill · 10/09/2012 16:31

Just think...by the time you factor in the solicitors fees, removals van, new decorations, change of furniture for stuff that is too big / small for the next house, new plants for the garden, new school uniforms etc you'll have singlehandedly revived the economy Grin.

It would be selfish to not do it, if only other people felt this way (gazes around at other people's decoration choices after 5 years in new house!)

Craftyone · 10/09/2012 16:45

Losing the money during the moves was a real bugger! We worked our arses off for each deposit etc but i've always felt that i would'nt want to grow old and be looking back wondering 'what if '. We lived in some places for only 6 months. Now we have children that's obviously not an option but we have lots of great stories to tell them when they get older ;)

Well we are buying our first house after renting for a number of years. It should be a really happy time but somehow all the stress and waiting has shot it all to shit. Plus we are having to downsize from our beautiful dream rental home to get on the ladder. I know, we can decorate and shit, but our rental home is my perfect home, I have brought my babies home to this house and I don't want to bloody move. But we can't afford to buy this one so we are buying that one and that's it (to quote my DH)!

bumbez · 10/09/2012 17:54

Last June I felt exactly the same, just felt like a change. Our house is lovely but we've been here 8 years now.

We put our house on the market in July and finally found a buyer 11 months later. It's been bloody stressfull, and we still haven't exchanged ( tomorrow hopefully).

Our new house is bigger but loads more money, on balance it's worth it I think but we will be stretched. YABU :)

bumbez · 10/09/2012 17:55

Sorry meant yanbu

If you can afford to keep renting there Why not buy the new house as a rental investment and keep living where you are?
