WIBU not to pander to party guest's wants?

Had a party at the weekend for DD.

Provided a variety of drinks and plenty of them as it was a quite physical activty.

One child told me he didn't like any of the drinks and wanted a blue sports drink as that's the only thing he drank. Hmm.

I said I couldn't get him something different as it would be unfair on the rest of the group.

So he went without.

WIBU?

I felt a bit mean actually as the child went without a drink and was very hot and swampy.

Sad

Yanbu

Kids don't drink blue sports drinks do they?

Unless you knew he was allowed it in which case yabu.

simperingsally · 10/09/2012 09:21

Of course UWNBU. Theres nothing wrong with plain water if he was thirsty anyway.

ShoeJunkie · 10/09/2012 09:21

Nope, if he was really thirsty he could have drunk what you were offering or, if it was really an issue for him he (or his parents) should have provided one for him.
In summary YANBU Grin

HeffalumpsAndGoldenWoozles · 10/09/2012 09:22

YANot at all BU. If he was really thirsty he'd have had a drink from the selection you provided.

Blue sports drink? Yuck! That can't really be the only thing he drinks, he was trying it on.

honeytea · 10/09/2012 09:23

I don't think it's a good idea to buy energy drinks for someone else's child. I think the child was fibbing I don't think you can survive on blue energy drinks as your only source of hydration.

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 10/09/2012 09:23

Has his mum complained?

valiumredhead · 10/09/2012 09:23

He was trying it on, bless him! Grin

niceguy2 · 10/09/2012 09:23

YANBU His choice. It's not like you refused to give him a drink. If he was THAT thirsty then he'd have had a glass of anything going.

More importantly WTF are his parents doing!?!?! I'm not one to mollycoddle kids with the 5 a day organic bollocks but seriously......nothing but blue sports drinks!?!? That must be very bad for his health. All that sugar and artificial crap that's inside them.

Hmm Some parents are just clueless.

Fecklessdizzy · 10/09/2012 09:24

Nope, there's always water if he's gasping and sports drinks are weird and pointless cocktails of crap anyway! Grin

OHforDUCKScake · 10/09/2012 09:25

What were you supposed to do, pull a blue sports drink from out your butt?

If it wasnt there then it wasnt there.

Yanbu.

crackcrackcrak · 10/09/2012 09:26

Agree with shoejunkie - I take a few bits in dd lunch box in case she rejects the good at a party - I wouldn't dream of composing etc but I make allowances for her because she's 3. I expect her to go to parties on her own eventually and cope!

Anyway parties are fairly standard food/drinks I would expect squash and lemonade, sometimes cola but not fecking Gatorade!

Sirzy · 10/09/2012 09:27

Yanbu. No chance would I buy something like that for a child.

If he is that fussy with drinks his parents should have sent one with him

StealthPolarBear · 10/09/2012 09:27

I assume there was a vending machine which dispensed blue sports drink :o

threeOrangesocksmorgan · 10/09/2012 09:28

yanbu
he was lol

ChaosTrulyReigns · 10/09/2012 09:30

Tbh, I know a few DC who actively dislike water, and I was concerned that he would be without fliuds, I had my purse in my hand at one point to nip and get one (he didn't know this), but my friend told me not to be such a doily. Wink

When the mom came to collect and I explained that he hadn't had a drink, she rolled her eyes (at me? At him?) and said she'd get him one on the way to the car.

Sigh.

I just find it jars with my hotly duties to not accomodaet a guest's wishes.

YANBU, I'm sure kids under 14 aren't meant to have that stuff anyway.

AnitaBlake · 10/09/2012 09:31

Not at all DSD loves to tell us how the only things she drinks are actual fruit juice or milk. She doesn't like water or squash, apparently. Likes em well enough when that's the only thing available though

ChaosTrulyReigns · 10/09/2012 09:31

Hotly = hostly.

Blush

Yep, vending machine.

One of DS's best friends, 11, drinks nothing but those horrible blue, Powerade drinks and recently at a mutual friend's BBQ he virtually drank a entire 2L bottle of diet coke by himself.... His parents are lovely and educated but he's very fussy and it strikes me that he's just allowed to have a totally rubbish diet and get away with it.....

We took him to Hampton Court about a year ago and his lunchbox consisted of two Powerade drinks, three chocolate bars (which he ate in front of our DCs without offering them even a bite!) and a packet of crisps...

As we pointed out to DS, when he was being envious, this boy's bones will have been leached of all their calcium if he continues to have such a poor diet....

Think some children always try it on - we've been known to offer a range of fruit juices, water or milk and still some children will ask for a juice you haven't got ;-(

Fecklessdizzy · 10/09/2012 09:32

You have hotly duties? Grin Blimey! No wonder it was getting a bit sweaty ...

SuperB0F · 10/09/2012 09:33

You are the monster that won't let visiting children have sugar on their weetabix, aren't you?

Grin
BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 10/09/2012 09:33

Sorry I misunderstood. I thought you had one already and he wanted it.

No I wouldn't have gone to the shop to get one. Yanbu

Yamyoid · 10/09/2012 09:36

Yanbu. My ds doesn't like squash so at parties he has to make do with water.
Can't believe anyone would actually let their child only drink that stuff.
Or maybe he was trying it on. Mum was probably rolling her eyes at him.

Hullygully · 10/09/2012 09:40

water
