To be inconsolably sad its all over?

I was thrilled when we were awarded the 2012 games, we even started to put money away so DS (only newborn at the time) could go and see some of it.
Fast forward several years and my work situation meant that the sailing was the only event we could really attend. Sadly the lottery system made this unlikely and I started to be disillusioned.
Never one to be miserable for long, I enjoyed the build up and pitied the moaners. Like most, I had my reservations about some of LOCOGs decisions but overall I looked forward to it.
The Olympic opening ceremony came and went, and DS and I spent literally hours in front of the TV. When DH came home we sat down together and cheered and groaned our way through the coverage, becoming more enthusiastic and inspired as the days went on.
The Olympic closing ceremoney left us very flat but we said "Oh well, theres always the Paralympics"
And then....
DS and I managed, after many hours of chasing velodrome tickets, to get equestrian tickets and also to see the Olympic Park. We came back humbled, inspired and overall, really proud to be British.
We spent even longer in front of the TV, DH has become an avid wheelchair basketball fan and we have wept enough to keep us out of tears for several months to come.
Today DS sobbed that he did not want it to end (he is 8 and now harbours dreams of being a triathlete) I have watched the closing ceremony to the end, DS and DH peeled off along the way as they have work and school in the morning.
So all in all, AIBU to be sad its over? And AIBU to thank every single person who has made this summer the best we have ever had (despite the weather!)?

I totally agree.
The country has felt rather rather miserable for the last couple of years but the Olympics has been such a boost for everyone. The Paras were just awe inspiring and humbling, the human spirit at its best. Infact I am crying just thinking how great they all are.

YANBU. I am too. I went to bed last night and couldn't shake the feeling of sadness that it was all over. London has been an absolute delight this summer, coming to work every day and walking past hoardes of tourists draped in their national flags, sitting next to gamesmakers on the train, seeing people with medals, the rings/agitos and London 2012 logos draped and stuck everywhere. I feel so utterly privileged to have been inside the Olympic Park and especially the stadium. The whole thing has just been magical and the atmosphere has incredible. I will never forget it, and I hope the rest of London holds onto a little bit of it too.

YANBU, it's been fab :)

You could extend the sporting love for another week, though, as the Tour of Britain cycle race started yesterday and will finish next Sunday. Live coverage on ITV4 and then an evening highlights show!

I've loved the Olympics and Paralympics too.

Has anyone already noted that the Tour of Britain has just started?

Featuring some excellent GB cyclists including Mark Cavendish and Brad Wiggins. Coverage on ITV4!

whatdoiknowanyway I bet that was amazing to work as a games maker! Every single volunteer we encountered during our visits was so friendly and they made the games so much more memorable. DS loved giving high fives to the ones with big foam hands Grin.

Thank you for all your hard work, and enjoy the parade - you deserve it.
